We had a Bugaboo chameleon, used it for 2 kids, traveled with us to Cuba/Trinidad/St.Lucia/Europe and the US. It was light, and not a chore for my wife to use it. I gave it to a lady at work. She gave me a $250 gift certificate to the keg which I was not expecting, but was happy.
The thing is Vas doesn't have any kids yet, so he can talk all he wants, but once Vas junior gets here, he won't be buying Walmart/Kijiji shit for his kid, it will be only the best.
Ok man...watch me blow money $500 bullsh!t car seats and $1000 strollers.
I'd never put a kid at risk over money but emotional consumers (new parents) are victims of marketing scams all around, this thread here proves it.
Alpha Trion nailed it, 200-300 you can get good stuff if you look around. No need to blow 500

csa is such a scam in general. Because engineers in a lot of cases is just bureaucratic bullshit. its obviously all about money. You pay your shit. some wally comes in once in a while to "check" on things. you pay your fee, get you sticker. its a cash grab really.
if a company doesnt want to pony up the cash. no csa sticker. (its not mandatory in most cases)
If they do pay up...the item will cost more to recoup the cost for that sticker(which is pretty high monthly fees), meanwhile its identical to the one sold in the states. In the end the consumer gets screwed.

I'm ashamed to admit that we spent $XXXX.XX just on the stroller LOL i'm sorry i don't understand this shit. $1G+ for a flippin stroller? our 3-1 greco stroller, infant car seat and base worked just fine...i'd rather spend that other $500 on the kid. that's just me tho. SW20_mr2 is right tho, when we got rear-ended at about 15ish km/h insurance bought us a new car seat and seat base. It isn't just a stroller but the infant seat as well. Yes it's a lot of money but we wanted the most compact traveling system and the Orbit fit our needs. I use to be disgusted at hearing people spend $500 on a stroller lol. Well fuck you guys after having my daughter my views changed.
C'monnnn bro. no need to justify it, if you want a ballin stroller because said baller then all good.
the greco system fit in my RSX no problem (even with a sub box with two 10's lol) and i'm 5'5 and my wife is 5ft. the greco system was not bulky, and can be managed, and honestly, unless your like those asian moms who push their kid in a stroller until they are 10yrs old, you'll only use it daily for at most 3 years. and i'm betting that atleast 80% of people have a car bigger than a RSX with a kid. we also took it to jamaica and all over. people had much bigger strollers lined up when we got off the plane.
risky nailed it. companies use the emotion of new parents for them to spend high dollar items. even my brother keeps telling me that i need a SUV if i have a kid....for what? frickin wipe warmers and bottle heaters and shit. what ever happended to a small pot with water on the stove? (granted we got all that crap at the baby shower)

We did a lot of comparisons before buying the Orbit. The travel systems in the $300 range are heavy and clunky as fuck. It's great that you were able to use a cheaper one and fit it in the RSX. Like I said this one works for us... hell the MIL even commented on how light and easy the stroller is to push compared to the cheaper shit my SIL has LOL. Trust me I could think of a lot of different things we could have bought for $1k+

^^ There's a bit of trolling, but there are sites that compare seats and how they perform in various crash tests. I don't know if you have taken a look, but the safety standards are a minimum. Its kind of like saying I don't need the 10 airbags in a bimmer because I have a seat belt in my Yugo. Sure, you don't need it, but in a crash, you'll be glad you had it.
Its not just the crash test, its how much use you get out of the seat too.
I have, and at the time the standard was to have a kid seat crash tested atleast once. the graco one was crash tested 13 times and and came out with the best results. it may not be the safest, but if that was the case wouldn't everyone have the same seat?
but if that's the case, then how come your not driving a buick enclave? or a chevy traverse? or a volvo XC60? they all got the best safety ratings of SUV's but the X5 wasn't on the list? as per JD power & associates.

You mad bro? I'm not defending my purchase but you sure are trying hard. Typically the more expensive the stroller the lighter, easier to fold/unfold and more adjustability...there is no arguing that and yes cheap is fucking heavy and clunky as fuck!

lol you sound mad for spending 1K+ on a stroller that's probably not much lighter than a cheaper one. my wife must be a body builder because a 5 ft 100lb woman had no problem with it at all..

Where the hell did safety come into this lol. Any child seat front facing with fit fine & is safe.Try rear facing that same car seat in any small sedan & hatchback and your losing the front passenger seat. It just that simple. I'm 6'1' and have my seat all the way back. Kids can sit behind me or a small adult 5ft can squish behind me in the legacy. Throw in the dog and all of a sudden my 4th gen legacy is useless. Stroller in the trunk. That's with one child. I'm not upgrading cars nor am I spending less on a car seat because of a stigma that $500 is expensive/unreasonable. That's short sighted especially since I won't have to upgrade to another convertible or booster seat.
Graco, Britax, Chicco, etc you buying a new seat as your child grows, infant, convertible x 2, booster. That's $150 + tax each time on yes a wide seat, not narrow think twins, 2nd or 3rd child. Not versatile in configurations etc
Forget the safety for a second I'd rather pay once and that's it stroller/car seat. My kid will be in the same stroller till she can walk and will be in the same car seat till she's 7 (documented by others to death).
I see no reason to loose out on the front seat, getting rid of the dog or upgrading to a bigger vehicle over a $100 difference. Some people think so short-term. If your only planning on having one kid I completely understand, but in my situation that's not the case.
The reason why car seats expire other than whats been mentioned is just like motorcycle helmets, there's a lot of styrofoam in car seats so they breakdown over time.
The safety standards (csa) between the usa and canada are different because the states have 3 dummy sizes 3lbs, 5lbs, 7lbs while canada only has two 3lbs & 7lbs. So in Canada if the 7lbs doll fails the test guess what, they rate the seat based upon the 3lbs dummy. Where as the states have that extra 5lbs dummy that passed. (Loose explanation).

Its not just the crash test, its how much use you get out of the seat too. I haven't seen crash tests but I'd assume that the type of car will do a lot more for the kids' safety in an accident than the car seat itself. It's not like the kid/seat breaks from it's mounting points and the kid is thrown off. That's my basic layman take on this whole thing. I do believe in having a bigger car though so ya I will be that douche that carts a kid around in an SUV for the safety points.
A lot of people do it. There is no doubt that a bigger car/van/truck is safer than a more expensive car seat. But you'd loose out on gas mileage weekly so you'd have to figure out what works for you.
