Why did you spend $xxx on your dining room table when a $50 Kijiji special would've been good enough? ;\)

so no problem spending big bills on your custom table? it's your child dude, you cant put a price on your child's safety. But I will not go batshit overboard spending on a lot of things - just as long it works, meets safety standards and the kid is happy and Im happy.

you are in for a rude awakening when your wife starts popping out babies.

youre completely missing my point. its every bit as important but typically overlooked by society. Typical, put the emphasis on some consumer product and not yourself ;\)
people can test their child seats or they can avoid that by having better driver skill(this applies for all driving scenarios. kids or not) . Thats merely what I was getting at. Im not suggesting you build a child seat from duct tape and to be happy with it. Im definitely aware of kid costs(family how does it work?) ...big reason why I havent dove in. (this topic has been discussed at length with s/o for yrs)

i'm sorry i don't understand this shit. $1G+ for a flippin stroller? our 3-1 greco stroller, infant car seat and base worked just fine...i'd rather spend that other $500 on the kid. that's just me tho.

SW20_mr2 is right tho, when we got rear-ended at about 15ish km/h insurance bought us a new car seat and seat base.

It isn't just a stroller but the infant seat as well. Yes it's a lot of money but we wanted the most compact traveling system and the Orbit fit our needs. I use to be disgusted at hearing people spend $500 on a stroller lol. Well fuck you guys after having my daughter my views changed.

I'm not sure what makes one car seat safer than the other. They all have to meet CSA guidelines which makes them ALL safe, so you can't really say more expensive = more safer. In terms of comfort, size and weight, that's where the price differences are.

I have twins so trust me, pricing is always an issue since I have to buy 2 of everything, but even if you wait and scan around, you can always get the nicer, expensive stuff for cheap. Got my Peg Perego Viaggio SIP infant carriers for $200 each (reg. $300) cuz they were the previous years model. When we had to switch to the convertable seats, I scored Diono R100's for $169 each (reg. $280) after they went on sale plus scored an additional 25% off coupon code.

Bottom line is you can always be a faux baller, just gotta pull some RFD peasant styles.

North Richmond Hill.

Of course I'm not in Wayne's hood (Balla)

Well we looked at places. I work in Pickering, wife is in scrapboro. We wanted stoufville, but wife said lets do Pickering for now and when kids come, we will move back to York region \:\)

Good deals in Durham for new buyers, so it just made sense for us to go that route for now.

I looked in Pickering too, close to Wayne and there were really good deals there for sure, decent lots too as a lot of the subdivisions are older (80's) around Finch anyway.

Time for a reunion, do you still have the VSM SI?

Almost bought that one, its pretty cool. Makes it super easy to pop the baby seat out of the car and into the stroller since it can " orbit" haha

That was my biggest issue, property taxes for a lot of the areas we looked on 2100-2400 sq. ft. homes were about $5k

That car served you well for sure, what do you drive now?

blasphemous.

I was thinking about this last night and thought of the same thing. price !=quality/safety.

Yup I made this point earlier but price does give you options. Cheaper is usually bulkier, if you have one kid and a fairly big vehicle then no problem BUT if you have a smaller car or multiple kids then the slimmer steel framed carseat that would allow you to rear face the kid longer or give you more room would be a better option.

You can get a cheaper stroller but you may end up buying 3 different ones in the time the child will be using it to fit your needs: Snap & go then regular then umbrella. Or you can get the more expensive, lighter, more compact and more flexible stroller that can transition through the growing phases of your kid.

At the end of the day you can work with anything but some things make it easier for you in the long run, the caveat is that they usually cost more.

Plastic clips, cloth straps...etc degrade over time.

Edit: I checked the sites on a Radian (expensive/steel frame) and an Eddie Bauer (cheaper, plastic frame).

Radian's have an 8-10 year usage before expiry
Eddie's have a 6-8 year usage.

This question baffled me as well, until I called the manufacturer and asked. They said that it is because the seat sits in the car for extended periods during extreme weather conditions (heat in the summer and cold in the winter) and the plastic pieces can deteriorate

I remember that, but a steel frame seat should not expire, i understand if it's plastic.

THey should then put expiry dates on car seat belts too.

that is true to an extent. But it all depends on what exactly is being used.

Its definitely there to help drive the industry...and its likely they compliment eachother(they can produce cheaper shit, have an earlier expiry so you have to buy more).

They could easily produce something that lasts much longer. But then less people would buy new.

Lots of plastic and rubber in your car that serve more important everyday purposes that dont have an expiry date on them

I agree the expiry thing is likely a scam on some degree. But oh well, since the kids only use it for 5-6 years, it's no big deal. It's not like I'd want a 6 year old seat anyways since the fabric would be all nasty.

Mark hit the nail on the head though. I would never spend $500 on a car seat, but I would wait for the good stuff to go on sale. The Peg Perego and Diono stuff is more than enough (and typically on the more expensive side), but good deals can be had. I think we paid $300 for the Radian XT a few years back, but we were in a hurry and couldn't wait.

Agreed. These are consumer products and are no different than most out there in terms of cost/trim levels/hype.
And they use "kids" as a marketing tool to drive up cost and hype. omg if you dont buy the seatmaster2000 your kid will be unsafe!!?1!?1?!o1oeneoen1!

Again I dont think anyone is advocating running seatless or to make one out of mdf from home depot but theres no need to get all frothy and blow your wad on the most expensive thing out there.
