Check out the New Balance good form running videos. It's kinda a crash course in how to adopt a quick and easy form while running.
http://www.newbalance.com/Good-Form---What-Is-Good-Form/good_form_what_is_good_form,default,pg.html
Did they analyze your stride on a treadmill? Running on a treadmill is different than running on the road.

Another sprint distance Tri in 2 weeks, then the local Turkey Trot on thanksgiving. Still debating on whether or not to do the California International Marathon in December. Beyond that I'm going to try and get into the Way Too Cool 50k trail race in NorCal (it has a lottery) in March.
Nice! I am going to get in on that lottery also. Also, just signed up for a 25k trail run at Stinson Beach on Oct 27. Also thinking about road tripping and doing one in the Santa Monica mountains on Nov 18th.

Lol, she passed out before I could talk her into it. I have a feeling it'll be just me. Pretty excited though. I was just reading a blog post about PCT events and all the problems they had last year. Was that Santa Cruz run you were supposed to do one of them?
Its under new ownership and its supposedly being run alot better now.

That was very helpful/informative.
It's hard for me to grasp how to change how my feet strike the ground.
I'm gonna try running again soon.

One thing that I try to think about if I feel like my form is getting off is to feel like I'm falling forward, running is all about momentum and specifically forward momentum. Any time your heel hits the ground or your feet get out in front of your body you are essentially putting on the brakes. Just my two cents.

That might explain why I'm such a slow runner (11 minute mile )
On one hand, it seems like a massive strain on calves/shin to do a toe strike, but on the other hand, I can jump rope for 30 minutes without any issues and that's all toe strike.
I guess I have to work my way through it.

Think of running as propelling yourself forward. Your calves are the spring, so your heels will very quickly and lightly touch the ground. You aren't running on your toes, that is a sprint. You are thinking of stabbing the ground with your toes, which is the same (braking) as a heel strike.
Your feet hitting the ground is just a consequence of your running motion. Your hips are pulling your knee up as your calves are propelling your foot off the ground. It's a circular motion and your foot is landing directly under your center of gravity as it strikes the ground.
Another good image to think about is a horse pawing the ground. That's kinda the motion you need to think about as you run.

Did a brick this afternoon/evening for the first time.
A hilly 15.19 mile loop in my singlespeed in 59:18 followed by a 2.60 mile run in 27:38, which was a 10:38 min/mile--which is decently quick for me--especially after a bike ride.
I only walked a little bit and I felt great the whole time. Quads got pretty fatigued toward the end because hills on the singlespeed are a pretty massive quad workout. I really focused on a mid-foot strike. I noticed that I went faster with the toe strike, but that's still pretty tricky.
VERY stoked to have done this, though.
Since I can swim laps in a pool for an hour without much effort, a sprint triathlon is now well within reach (I'm looking your way Mr. Mom).

OMFG. I still have RIDICULOUS leg muscle aches from Friday's run. Went away for the weekend. Today's aches were WAY worse than yesterday's. Hopefully they lessen a bit overnight.

Did a shorter, more sluggish, but satisfying brick today.
8.38 mile singlespeed bike romp in 34:06 and a 2.53 mile run in 27:59 (slow 11:03 min/mile).
My legs felt like lead during the run and we'll see how the aches are tomorrow morning. I'm thinking they won't be nearly as bad.

Another shorty brick today.
8.58 mile bike, 2.49 mile run/walk. Legs weren't feeling it today. Knees were feeling quite a bit of impact and stamina was weak. Recovery was great, though. Breathing got back to normal after about 30 seconds of walking.
My knees are a bit sore at the moment. That said, a nice 1:05 of cardio, so it was a decent burn.

Hit 45 miles for this past week, which included three 10.5 milers. Time is coming back down as well, so I'm happy. 15/15 for this month so far.
Nice! I just noticed that I passed 1000 miles for the year, 1018 to be exact.
