I've been hitting the treadmill for about 30 minutes every day at Lifetime, then playing basketball for 2 hours. I figure that gets enough cardio in

Didnt time it. I headed out the door thinking I would walk to the local high school and run laps, but as soon as I stepped outside I saw the lights at the football stadium were on so I just started running a course I had previously mapped out. huge hill right in the middle of the course, its murder!

That's how my run is too. There are two separate ~200 step hills (yea, they're big) with a 10-12% grade if I had to guess. Running in the Smoky Mountains is ftw in scenery but holy hell if it wont wear you out. Id kill to run somewhere boring like Kansas. *poke* Haha

whats the weather like out there right now? low is about 70 here at 6am or about 85 at 10pm when I like to run. highs were 97-ish until today with the storm moving in.

70 is perfect to run as far as im concerned.

oh and i signed up for the 10k turkey trot on 11/22. i feel like a pimp.

I wish I lived in the flat part of Kansas. Our elevation changes certainly aren't mountain-esque, but it ain't flat, either \:\(

Pretty happy with my weight for the first time since '04(I was 220 from '04-'06), I just need to keep leaning out.

Dang, Im 6'4 238-240 or so. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to be 200-210 but that's a lot of work and strict diet. I wish I had someone close by to run with every single day and yea...

After 8 days off I ran about 1.5 miles today in 11:33 or so. Im not sure of the exact distance, but it's a nice little trail (paved) with not much elevation change. Im pleased but need to up my distance again. Im tired of taking two steps forward and three back.

look at you man, great time. sounds like you were well rested and must have felt well.

how often are you trying to run? i find that if i run more than 4 days a week I always get injured. BTW Vegas is mostly concrete and paved roads at this point so I'm always running on hard surfaces, so that may be the problem too.

I'm just running every 2nd or 3rd day right now and the recovery time seems just right for me.

(That distance may not be 100% accurate. I was unsure but since I ran a mile in 8:22ish, I just threw something up there)

I TRY to run 3-4 times per week. Usually on Monday-Tuesday, rest on Wednesday, then run on Thursday, Rest, Saturday. Most of the time I dont get the Saturday run in, but we'll see. Ill be honest, IM sorta nervous about this 5k this weekend. Ive never run in a race and Im NOT a morning person. It's about 30 minutes away, and it's at 8am. Recipe for disaster...

-Matt

edit: Also, what part of you is it that gets tired first? I find after running for awhile it's my lungs before my legs. Now that Ive completely run through my shin splints I had back in June/July/August timeframe, I dont have much pain per se. However, I wish I would be able to last for 15-20 minutes or so.

definitely my lungs.

and dont stress the race, just think of it as another run. i feel you on not being a morning person either. i work graveyard so my race at 6am is kind of like 6pm to me. perfect!

and edit: i originally got into running because our high school baseball coash was also our cross country coach and running cc was my going to be my warm up to get in shape for baseball. but i had so much fun at races and meeting new people i ended up doing cc even after i stopped playing baseball.

thats really impressive. my legs would turn to jello, then buckle and give way before I collapsed to the floor if I did 60 minutes.

it's taken me a long time to build up to that... When I started out getting back into shape, I could barely do 10 minutes on level 5, now 8 months later I am doing 60 minutes on level 12 4-5 days a week..

Impressive man, that's a good distance! My long-term goal is to be able to run a 5 miler with no stops. As it is now, I have to walk for 1-2 minutes every 10-12 minutes. \:\(

I ran 6.5 miles in a 7:33 pace last night. I could have went a lot farther but it was getting pretty dark on me. Hopefully it stays warm a little bit longer so I don't have to move to the pool to get my exercise quite yet.
