Calves are still fucking sore from Monday stairs. 22 miles this week with 2 hours on the bike. It's nice that winter is over. My runs are still a struggle speed wise because of my groin, but my pace is at least 30-40 seconds quicker per mile just because no snow/less clothing.

One more hockey game for the year coming up.

I'm doing a 2 hr powerwalk this evening and going to do a long run Saturday night. Will be good to test all my night gear, as well as it being cooler can get in more miles. Supposed to be 8 hours, want to get in at least 5 laps of 7 miles each. Will be my longest training run and also my longest run ever, and doing it through the night I'll be tired as hell I am sure, but hey do what you gotta do! \:\)

Just got back from doing hills for the first time in 5 weeks, was great! At the end I got one of those 3 second runner's highs where everything just felt right. And people wonder why we run? Lol.

Also, throwing this out here in this thread than my own hoping to get a wider audience.

I'm debating on not doing the Cremator ultra in July, as doing some real training and thoughts on it I'm unsure if I can complete it and/or if I even want to do it. That doesn't mean I don't want to do an ultra though, so wondering if anyone has any suggestions of an ultra 50k-100mile in the July to September time frame. Maybe some of you guys have done some and can suggest something.

I've been looking at some but kind of don't want this race to cost me 3 grand in flying and hotels and car and such, ya know? I was thinking Run Rabbit Run would be epic to do, but even the 50 miler elevation profile is daunting to this Floridian.

July 12, 10km, 21Km, 30Km & 50km

this is in your time-window if interested. I'd be happy to do a 5/10k with you near the end \:D [I go surfing near there]

Just go find a parking garage ahead of time for hill training

EDIT: also, Ironmom says he may come out for the RRR100 so you can crew all day friday and friday night before starting the 50 on Saturday morning! that'd be good fatigue training haha

July 12 is a bad weekend, I'll be in PA for a party.

So both of you are doing RRR 100? It looks like it is already sold out.

I think it would be a lot of fun to crew someone, as I've never done it. I keep meaning to volunteer for a race sometime but still haven't.

Wonder how much flights are out there. And hotels and car and such, ugh, prices add up so quick!

Thinking of doing this one as I've never run San Diego. Organizers claim it's an elite-focused race but I'm a little skeptical...

Chris is tentatively committing to crewing for me (I'm registered) but I think we both suspect I'll come down with some sort of injury four weeks out. There are 10-12 people coming in for that race to either run or crew so it's going to be a party in September.

Regarding costs - it might not be as bad as you think and you get to play in this instead of running hot laps in a neighborhood

EDIT: and all the climbing is right up front anyway, so if you're OK with altitude you'll be fine

So his plan is that you get injured and he takes your spot? ;\) That's awesome you'll know so many people there!

That does look nice, Steamboat looks like an awesome little town. What's easiest way to get there? Fly to Denver and drive?

Since you edited...yeah that 1k climb right in the middle is nothing, don't worry about it. :P I've honestly never been at a high elevation before so I don't know about that.

Only one surefire way to find out

There are flights into Steamboat via Hayden (HDN) airport 25 miles to the west. Some direct flights even in the summer but they're typically kinda pricey. Best bet is usually flying into Denver and renting a car for the 3.5 hour drive. Sometimes you can get lucky with cheaper flights into Steamboat though - seems to vary wildly.

I'm on the fence about it, I can get direct round trip flights from Tampa to Denver for a whole $250, ugh. That's so cheap!

Would it be worth it going in a day or two early to see Denver and such? I dunno what all costs this could easily escalate to, haha.

Why must you tempt me with your beautiful small town!

Oh man, you're missing out. Every single local I've asked has told me they live in the mountains for the summers and just ski as a way to survive the winters. The summers are so much better unless you're a ski bum - in which case you work seasonally and leave when the mountain closes.

It'd definitely be fun to show up a little early but I wouldn't spend the time in Denver. I'd go to Boulder if I wanted to stay on the front range or come up to Steamboat early. If you had more than 1-2 days I'd do a road trip and see Leadville, Aspen and the San Juans - but they're six hours from Denver and six hours from Steamboat so it's a haul.

Yeah that's a lot. Driving that much right before doing a 50 mile run? Geez. Lol. It is certainly an idea in my head right now, I looked and the race has 250 cap for 50milers and only at 124. So that is good.

If I could find another 50k-50m to do around July timeframe that would be cool to do as well. Keep me going through the summer to get to my late year races.

Also, I do Rabbit you do Javelina? ;\)

If Ironmom can run 100 miles before driving his ass to the airport on no sleep I think you can manage a road trip a couple days before a race!

And Javelina is 100% dependent on how I'm feeling in early October. At this point I can't imagine thinking it's a good idea but a month ago I was all ready to sign up so we'll see haha

p.s. did you even pedal? 101hr and 23mph on a moderate hill?

depends how you go, I went on a ~80% dirt trail and then had to take a bridge over PCH, the rest of the route along the ocean is all dirt/trail

the turnaround point:
