I agree it's a totally awesome shot.

Question: did you manipulate the saturation on the starling, or did you just get amazingly lucky with the light? I know they're kind of iridescent, but you rarely see it so clearly.

I raised the contrast out of necessity (I shoot RAW), but that's how he looked. And you're right and I was wrong - he's a starling and not a grackle.

Lol, I totally missed you calling him a grackle. I just know starlings because this area of the country is infested with them, especially the building where I work. They're like the rats of the sky. But pretty in that pic!

Yeah what an amazing place. I took some 300 pics with a lot just playing around. I really want to go back in the fall when the leaves are changing and it's not 95degrees and 100% humidity with the slight rain. Took us about 2hrs to get there so I know I'll be going back. I'm just starting to process mine so I'll have some more pics over the next few weeks.

You're fighting a hell of a battle to center anything while handheld. I mostly don't even try any more. I either break out the tripod so I can very carefully compose (lol, not bloody often) or I just go to one side or the other and make the offset clearly deliberate.

That said, the bridge doesn't look bad to me as is.

What trail was that bridge on? I remember a very similar bridge on 'old man's cave' trail which I tried to wait patiently to take a cool picture of but people would just park their fat asses on it and not move...

honestly, i can't remember.. old man's cave sounds familiar.

yeah i had to use a lot of clone tool in these shots for the people, it was pretty crowded that day

i'm also mad because i forgot the tripod, so i had a LOT of throwaways.

this one is kind of boring, but it's about as good as my waterfall shots came out \:\(

For handheld that is actually really good for a long exposure and it makes me mad because I thought about going to that side of the falls but didn't want to get wet because I was already soaking and on my last set of dry socks. I've got a bunch of long exposure with my tripod but I really haven't gotten that far in processing yet.

Here's the stone bridge and Old Man's Cave (OMC was the one behind the visitor center/museum). I didn't even bother with my tripod on the Old Man's trail as there was just too many fucking people.

You've got plenty near you. It's been years since I lived in Atlanta but I remember a few... Stone Mountain (which you've taken a bunch of cool pics at already). Sweetwater Park which is west of Atlanta. Red Top Mountain north of Atlanta. Amicolala Falls (probably spelled it wrong) which is North of Atlanta. Cloudland Canyon up near the Tennessee border. Plus you guys have a bunch of cool Indian monuments/burial grounds plus all the civil war stuff. The See 7 States or whatever up by Chattanooga is fucking sweet.

I guess it's always a function of 'I want what you have' as I think now, 'damn if I had this awesome camera stuff when I lived down south'...

Bill - I like that shot. The headlight though detracts... I'm not one to typically edit stuff out but if I took that shot that headlight would be content-aware away...

Scott - I like the egret. He's a little bright but in this case it works for me as it draws your attention to him.

Yeah. That's all stuff I grew up around living in the south. Been wanting to go to a ton of places but it is not easy when you consider the price of gas and terrible weather here.

I plan on moving up near Amicolola Falls soon, but I have been saying that for 3 years now.
