Thinking about ditching my 14-24 (hardly ever use it) for something in the 18 or 24 prime range, and just can't lay it down for the zeiss despite having a hassy and the 100 f2. Nothing faster than 2.8 makes it kinda useless when I need to open it up wide open.




I can't imagine ever parting with the 14-24 myself. I adore it as an ultra-wide and it's even pretty amazing as a DX wide zoom (21-36 fov).

What about the nikon 24 f/1.4?

I have so many of those still to go through. It might be easier to just re-shoot everything I've done this year.

The patio was frozen so I slid out a bowl of birdseed. Forgot I captured this the other day and saw it last night. I was still focused on the bowl because one of the birds flew into frame from out of nowhere. Shutter was 1/320 because I wasn't expecting this. Check out the piece of food flying in air.

Exposure compensation, not ISO (though it could be bumped the 1/3 of a stop brighter in PS/LR). Or did you mean the birds' wings - in which case the motion blur adds to the image.

I bumped up the exposure and fill light on the birds + bumped the black level up to get the grayish color out. The blue jay only needed about 2/3 stop bump in exposure.

They are about as good as I can do in LR3. The full size version of the blue jay is detailed. You can see ice frozen to his beak and all kinds of stuff.

you know better than that \:\) shutter speed and aperture are stylistic choices when you have flexibility in ISO \:\)

nah, i was just saying the birds were a bit underexposed. since he was pushing it 2/3rd stop anyway, camera in manual, iso up a stop, done.
