The studio concept is like a light box for cars, but how I'm using it is kind of like taking a light box and trying to put crap in it to get shadows/shape to the light instead of surrounding everything with soft white light.  I shoot tethered to my Macbook Pro when I can, that is not the same computer I use for editing. It's good for checking at the time of shooting, MUCH better than the LCD screen on camera, but it's nowhere near "calibrated." I use an Eizo Coloredge CG211 on my G5 at home.

Dunno how Scott gets freaking deer and elk to pose for him yet, either.
I cheat by shooting in parks and conservation areas where there is never a hunting season. It makes the animals much less skittish and more tolerant of people.

Nate - Thanks. My house is slowly starting to look like that set (minus the interesting stuff).
My laptop has an HDMI port, but I've never tried it. I have an extra 17" LCD monitor, but would need to use an HDMI to PCI connector. I still have to buy a mini HDMI adapter as well. More stuff to think about on my own time...

Sounds like an awesome project, hope it works out! You could probably document the trip and make an argument for your class even if you don't manage to find the actual bears.

I'm not feeding them. The bigger bird has babies. It was collecting stuff for nest home improvements. I guess my patio is their version of home depot.
I chose this shot because it was the only one where my cat wasn't bouncing off the camera:
