saw the first signs of wildfire smoke in the air tonight. last year was pretty bad with thick smoke for what seemed like months. it accentuates the sun rays through the clouds

This one wasn't scared at all, I'm guessing he's used to boat traffic. Most bald eagles I see while fishing won't let you get very close at all. This is why I need Canon EF 100-400, lol.

The 100-400 is a great lens. I really like mine. Wish it was faster so I could autofocus with my 2xiii extender, but I get 800mm for under $2k. I imagine a 2.8 or 4 version would be north of $10k. The Eagle shot I posted was with the 100-400, 2x, and a better beamer flash extender for fill.

Wildfires are back again this year. It makes for some crazy light, and also gives creepy sunrises and sunsets.... And moons.

cool mx stuff! Don't get nice clean backgrounds like that often here in So Cal Thanks. Yeah there were plenty of busy areas, guess it's just perspective. I hate background clutter, sometimes it's unavoidable.
If you have the right blend of either contrast between the focus and back ground it can work excellent and if you can have motion blur it works fantastic as well...
I really love the last 2 you posted with sky and mountains in the background. Excellent!

I took this while visiting McKinley Grove near Shaver Lake, California this past weekend. There are some sparse Sequoias mixed in with regular redwoods.

That's not a bad shot. The whites seem a little bright and the white balance/greens seem a little bit off (especially on the vines on the trees, starting to look a little nuclear). Also could use a little more clarity or sharpening on the trees as it seems the focal point is a tiny bit in front of them.

Took some stills to help a friend of mine, who is helping promote a resort. The massage therapist at her table in the forest.
The lighting is a single 580EX, and is somewhat harsh. I had my big strobes up there, but the generator they provided wouldn't start. meh...did the best I could.

The mountains are like overly awesome compared to the rest of the picture. Actually the rest isn't bad with the harsh speedlight, but the mountains just look chopped in.

My first wild Bull Moose.. i'm kinda pissed as i just took the 40mm pancake on the hike. this would have been a million times more badical if i had the 135.... next time!
that and he spent most of his time grazing behind some bushes so as to clutter the shot. i was only like 10 feet from him at this point and my heart was racing pretty good.
