Thanks guys! That shot was from one of my first photoventures. All I had at the time was a rebel xt, 18-55 kit lens (used for that shot), and a borrowed 28-200. I wish I could re-do the trip now with my new gear and skills...

Yeah I am really happy with that one, some of the others from the trip, not so much. And I didn't even try any night shots because I didn't even have a tripod. Here I was in the middle of the Mojave and I couldn't take advantage of the dark skies. Really want to do this trip over again. Went from LA to Grand Canyon along Rte. 66. Such an awesome place if you ever get the chance to go out that way.

Lnxguy, did you look at your moonshot in B&W? I used Silverfx to punch mine up, brought out some more detail (not that yours is lacking at all). Maybe tonight I'll try cropping mine an seeing how close I can get.

The moon shot you posted is out of focus (or an incredibly soft focus). No amount of detail is going to help that.

Probably just my eyesight. Using the 2x telecon I have to manual focus everything as f/11 is my max aperture on the 100-400. If it looks in focus to me, it probably isn't...

Can't you get autofocus to work even with the 2x tele if you tape a few of the pins down? It's not like the moon is moving really fast, autofocus should work just fine.

Never tried taping the pins, but with no tape I lose AF with the 2x.
