The 6 shots were taken vertically with a bunch of overlap, and I had to crop to take the image to the edges of the frame. Still learning, so it probably could have been done differently...The 6 individual shots arent hosted anywhere, but I can throw them up this weekend if you really want to see them.

I think he's confused (and so am I) because it's not a panoramic, regardless of how many shots are stiched together. I thought it was one of the group too, taken with a really wide lens, distortion prone lens.

I disagree...it looks like a chop, badly. The 2nd hill in front of the background is very obvious and it even looks like a little bit of the sunburst is still lingering on the bottom right.

And the foreground hill has sun angle that doesn't match the scene at all.

it's a composite. shot the flowers, waited till the sky turned colors and shot the sky.

curious where you see sunburst?

Yeah. I'm super terrible at photoshop, so I'm always interested in seeing what goes into an image.

alright. after looking at it over and over, i agree.. it didn't exactly work. here's the shot before the sun went over the horizon. this is where i got the foreground for the other. this is still technically a composite, but from the same timeframe so the lighting matched up. i had to work it pretty good as the sky was blown out. i also am getting really tired of the shitty, shitty banding in the shadows of the mark2 if you try and lighten them even a little. i don't know how much longer i'll make it with this body.

Yeah, I meant to mention the banding but forgot in my previous post. That's pretty horrible IMO.

The above image, however, I like.

thanks. is it looking underexposed? it looks slightly dark on my MBP, but these screens are super bright. i'm afraid it's a little dark, but i can't brighten it up any without bringing that banding back out.

it is underexposed, but I kind of like it that way for what you've done. I like the crisp sunburst. The flowers could use their own bump in exposure, but that's about all i'd change.

Sounds like it's time to switch to the D810. ;\)

Canon won't come up with anything besides maybe an APS-C body people have been waiting on since 2010. 5D4 might not suck but then mirrors and landscape photography don't mix anyway. I'll eat my keyboard if they release an EF mount mirrorless in 6 months.

Selling all my canon glass would take forever and be a money losing endeavor. I kinda want to buy a Fuji or something this xmas and sit on my EF lenses for a few years. Canon will have to get it right eventually profit or no profit.

is that the new 16-35/4L IS lens? i was thinking about that one. and are you using the built-in stitching feature or doing it manually? b/c it gets annoying w/ all the distortion going on with wider than 35mm lenses.

but yea...i like stitching shots. it's the poor-man's medium format sensor. also gives it a expansive look w/o the corner stretching of ultra-wides.

Why do you say mirrors and landscape photography don't mix?

Mirror slap. Just another unnecessary moving part to introduce camera shake unless you shoot a lot of action. Even then on-sensor tech is catching up quickly.

Mirror slap. The typically longer shutter speeds used on landscape photography let the vibration from the mirror to shake the camera and blur the image. Hence most better SLR's having a MLU option.

this makes no sense btw. the mirror will open and shut exactly once per exposure. shutter speeds have nothing to do with it. if anything, a long shutter speed will help hide any small movement from the mirror.

Long-ish. When the mirror opens, it shakes the camera. Really long exposures, like over 1 second, it's probably not enough added vibration to mess with the image, but on a 1/15s or 1/30s shutter speed it might be. Bigger mirrors, like on full frame and medium format SLRs, slap harder than APS-C cameras so ymmv.

Unless canon is different, shooting in live view still makes the mirror slap

Wow. I guess I've found the ONE thing canon does right over Nikon. Shooting in live view with the mark 2 locks up the mirror. So I can compose, adjust for exposure, focus, and then shoot. No mirror slap.

Yep. I thought it was broken the first time I used it in live view. Quiet and uneventful. I also can't remember the last time the viewfinder on mine wasn't covered with tape to keep stray light out of the mirror box. It works but not something I am looking for in the next camera I use for landscapes / astrophotography.

Didn't mean to get us too off topic. Just that mirrorless is worth a look if upgrading this year.

Oh absolutely. If the A7r had a better selection of lenses I'd prob jump ship right now. Not sure I want to deal with an adapter.

I'm kinda looking at the A7R as an interim until Canon gets their shit together with mirrorless. I'm really not that fond of an EVF except for critical focus check at the sensor in any light, and that is pretty amazing. Dynamic range seems pretty great too. The Metabones adapter keeps full auto aperture control, AF, IS, etc. Only thing it does is slow down AF and I don't think that's a huge deal for most of what you shoot, same for me.

I was looking at Fuji too, but then I think about how much I have in lenses and how I don't really have any duds in my lineup any more, so starting a new system from scratch and selling all my old gear isn't all that appealing. Only plus to that route IMO is some size and weight savings.
