@ Rumble.

Nailed my last long run tonight. 23 miles @ 3:57:17. And so the taper begins...

Oh and yes, all on the treadmill...

How?! Why?!

Maybe I missed it…but if OC = SoCal why on earth are you logging 4 hour treadmill runs?!

It's like you're taunting those of us who have no choice.

"look outside…it's 72 and sunny! and i'm still running on a treadmill!"

I train almost exclusively at night with very few "safe" routes for runners in our area. And still a bit nervous about getting stranded without resources.

I will say it is nice to plug away at Netflix while letting the treadmill dictate my pace. It has been really helping during the last half when I tend to slow down. And the impact has been forgiving to the knees. \:\)

This is probably my last run indoors at this length. Going to look at Beach routes come mid March.

More like harassed by wierdos The park in my area is HUGE but not patrolled at night. If I can shift my longer runs to Sat mornings I'll go there. Otherwise Huntington Beach has a nice 9 mile stretch with facilities every mile.

Bums are getting brave in my area. Asking for money in a demanding tone. Plus I'm running, all I have is a watch on me. Crazy. I think It's time to start carrying one of my knives, lol.

Damn Kent...that's impressive. Way longer than any training run I did while training for my races. You'll kill LA.

Whew...tough today! Bagged my first peak: Santiago which is the tallest hill in Orange County at 5800 feet. 15 miles round trip, 4400 feet of gain.

Dang, Chris! That's a climb! I thought SoCal was all flat and hot and sandy and boardwalk-y. That's a real hill

Yeah....pretty much straight up and straight down.

I need to move about 30 miles over and hit Mt Baldy at just over 10k though. :scary:

Kinda hate this thread being the slowest guy here. But I'm really happy not averaging 10:00 or slower anymore. WOOT.

Only ran 8 times so far for 2014. Really hard to stay motivated.

I imagine a GPS watch would do. But to track your type of movements I think you'd have to ping the satellite pretty often.

Rumble - maybe toss a few races into the schedule for motivation? That and sharing progress has kept me motivated for nearly two years.

Chris - seriously considering treating LA as a training run, just to take it all in. Maybe do OC for time.

I'm doing at least a race every month this year. 5K first 2 months, January/Febuary then going up every other month. 10K for March/April, you get the point.
Hopefully that works.

Would you use it for anything else? Spending a couple hundred bucks to get this:

is a questionable investment, IMO

Nice!! At least I know I'm not the only crazy one I did just over 18 last week on the treadmill.

I just finished up a long week of training, with next week even heavier... then 2 light weeks leading up to the 50k

The snow has made running too sketchy around here for the past couple of weeks.

I've been jumping a lot of rope and have been killing the mag trainer. Thaw/rain mid-end of the week will change dat doe (I hope)

Well my foot is feeling good again(stupid plantar fascia), and the snow melted...

And now it's 44 degrees and pouring rain and windy for the next week.

So I'll be getting on the treadmill, super.

Dude, I've proven the snow doesn't stop me. I've done 2 1/2s in varying degrees of snow, and there's photos of me and chris frolicking.

But Snow > rain when it comes to being outdoors.

A couple years ago I had a streak of running at least 30 minutes a day, every day, for 400 consecutive days. Those 400 days included Virginia summer, Wisconsin winter, day-after-running-50 miles-stiffness and the "wake up hungover at 5:00am in a foreign country and have to sneak that run in" type runs.

In short, I don't think I'm tougher than anyone else but I get a chuckle out of "it's too _____, better rock the treadmill for 3 hours" crowd

That said, I'm currently running on a treadmill Mon-Fri so I don't really have room to talk

Yeah, they always say that on our ski-fields too, but pissing down rain make the snow suck even if you're dry. Sometimes, being outdoors just sucks.

Why are there 4 poles up there?? At first I thought they were tools from doing trail maintenance but a closer look says they're permanent. Tying up horses? Locking up bikes? Leaning on to catch your breath in that thin air?

I'm not sure yet. Since I'm not an official member yet, I don't get the email...my buddy just forwards it a few days before. I'll be sure to pass it along when I get it that week though.

Lol. They're actually sighting tubes. You look through them and they're aimed at versions points of interest: downtown LA, Catalina Island, Mt Baldy, etc. They have little plaques that tell you what you're looking at. I think it was an Eagle Scout project.

The summit itself isn't all that pretty...it's packed full of cell towers/antennas...but the trail up is spectacular.

Aaah, so a less efficient and more wasteful version of this. Thanks, Eagle Scouts!

Looks like an awesome climb though! Who's your running group?

It's a local group that trains for a few road marathons in the spring and summer, then transitions to Saturday trail runs over the fall and winter. The guy on the far right is my friend (our kids are in the same classes) and I talked him into signing up for Way Too Cool...so when he invited me to come out with him for one of the Saturday runs, I felt like I should. \:D
Turns out, it's a lot of fun running with other people, and the miles fly by. In the pic we were just one group that went to the top. Probably about 20 people all together out there yesterday.

Kind of neat: the chick on the right is a former German tennis semi-pro who finished Boston last year within 30 seconds of my wife. The guy on the left is in a somewhat famous punk band. Pretty cool the people you meet.

That climb is great , the only drawback is the 3 miles of rough jeep trail you have to drive to get to the trailhead. You could run it I suppose, but you'd be sucking dust the whole way from the trucks and dirtbikes.
