Design I'm within minutes of you FWIW.
I'd say that's "quick" for us humans 1:30 is fast, to me That said, I know the pros and even "locals" can do it MUCH faster.
Really depends on the audience. I mean the new 50mile time is the same pace as a strong mile for me. It would take me months to string together 50 miles that fast.

Training for Chicago starts in a bit less than a month for me. I've been putting in a decent amount of work in the off season; I'm really hoping all the maintenance running I've been doing will help me get closer to my goal.
By the numbers, I have 800+ miles in 2019 (will be over 900 by the time June gets here), with 5 16 milers, 4 15 milers, 6 14 milers, and a smattering of 12-13 mile long runs logged, averaging anywhere from 45-55 miles per week. In comparison, in the 2018 off season I ran 400 miles, with 2 15 milers, 1 14 miler, and 2 13 milers going into marathon training. I'm very encouraged by both the amount of volume I've been able to sustain and the significant drops in pace.
Hitting sub 2:50 at Chicago feels very attainable, all of a sudden.

Whelp, the running has come full stop as of late last week. On the last day of vacation, was playing in a ball pit with the kids and came down on the right ankle HARD. Severe sprain with partially torn ligaments and a fractured fibula. Basically no running for 3-4 months.
I go in for reconstructive surgery on Wednesday to get everything bolted down and aligned. Wish me luck!

Thanks man. I'm recovering after getting 4 screws and a plate in the ankle. It's going to be a long road back but I'm not willing to give up just yet lol.
Best of luck on the achilles.

9 Week check-in (Does anyone read this anymore?)
I'm halfway through the training cycle for Chicago. I've run every day since June 10, averaged 70 mpw over the 9 weeks. I've had some small nagging issues, but overall I am feeling strong/durable. I think there's some aches and pains that are inherent in sustained high mileage.
That being said, I don't know if I'm feeling 2:50 strong. As of now, thinking about adjusting my expectations to 2:55; I'm not hitting marathon pace, nor am I hitting target tempo pace. I can't tell if it's the cumulative fatigue, the heat/humidity, or the elevation changes on my usual route. I have a 15k time trial coming up in a couple weeks and will be able to make a better determination then.

The move has sucked my running down to single digits. I've made it up a few mountains at least this season. Missed a 50 miler because I was woefully underprepared.
I have a 50k I might do in 4 weeks, woefully underprepared

For anyone that cares/still reads this thread, I had my longest run of the training cycle this Sunday; did 24 with negative splits. Pretty happy with the pace; I cruised it and while tired, was not destroyed at the end of it.
I will say I am feeling the fatigue today. Had 6x600 repeats yesterday, and I've got 15 today and a 15k time trial Friday. Might have to pull back the pace a bit today to try and recover quicker for Friday.

Update. Did my first outdoor run Sunday. A simple 4/1 for 3 miles. Ankle is a little stiff but doing fine.
Need to spend more time focusing on running form. But overall things are coming back together.

dam youre already ahead of me. I'm at/about 1 or at most 2 mpw right now, with an elliptical session thrown in. Achilles tenderness in the tendonosis spot ~4" up from heel is still present.
Biking around 70 mpw/swimming 5k yds/week tho and have doubled down on lifting. Gaining weight heh

My personal experience says you might be suffering from range of motion issues. Stretch, foam roll, then more stretching!
Those that have me on Strava know I've been pretty active as of late. Usually 5-6 sessions a week. Nothing heavy, just reminding the ankle it's supposed to move regularly.

Sometimes I wonder why I keep up with this crazy sport. I do honestly enjoy it. But getting back to par, and mitigating all the aches along the way, is sure testing my patience.
I've been trying to alter my running form. Chicago was awesome, ran a huge PR at 2:51:43, but I am very very quad dominant. My quads were completely fried after the race, while my hamstrings/glutes were completely fine. Been slowly working towards a more hip-dominant stride. Hopefully can make some good progress before training for Boston starts (Mid-December). Boston goal: 2:45-2:47 I think is realistic.
How much do you think the weather and hills will impact your pace?

It's been a while since I've shared an update. Still running and have been slowly adding back some miles. The ankle and calf are still a bit stiff from surgery, but getting better week over week. Tomorrow I'll try to knock out 16 miles if I can.
Going to keep LA Marathon on the calendar but suspect it will be a struggle this year. Regardless, glad to be moving again.
Running form is finally starting to click. Really starting to understand how the hip/pelvis is supposed to drive running form.
Not sure if you incorporate strength into your routine, but it was a wakeup call for me.

My year in review. Pretty happy with how much I've progressed this year.

update over here: hoping not to jinx it, but I ran just a tad Sat on the tmill, and did it Sunday too [foolishly, most likely], but with 30m of elliptical warmup, I ran 1.5 miles @ ez pace sat, followed by the same elliptical + tmill sunday and my achilles feels good to great just walking around
still some mild soreness if I press into the damaged region about 4" above the heel, but its been 15 months and I no longer limp at all on 10k step days so I figure its probably safe to hold mild treadmill jogging at the 1-2x/week level , maybe peaking at 4-5 mpw for a month or 2 to see what that does to me. This is officially week 2 I guess therefore of my 'return to running'
most likely, the wheels will come off but I'm gonna keep any mileage increases super mild. I will not go further than 2 miles per jog, no more than 2x/week for at least the first month or 6 weeks or so. After that I'm thinking about an outdoor 5k either on a track or in the grass
over the past year or so I'd always try to throw a half-mile or mile ez decline treadmill onto an elliptical workout but it always left me a bit inflamed so I'd push it off for another 4 weeks. Really depressing

Less than 7 weeks to go until Boston.
This training cycle has not been the best for me...I started a week late, had a couple small niggling calf injuries, then rolled and sprained the shit out of my ankle 3 weeks ago, resulting in having to take a week off. That being said, I was very aggressive on my return to activity; I'm hoping my fitness is still close to where I want it to be.
Still targeting sub 2:45:xx, but we'll see. Yesterday I had 800 meter repeats and I couldn't comfortably hit the pace I wanted to; I was off by 5-10 sec/mile. Granted, I had a fairly challenging 24 miler on Sunday and my stomach was not happy with me, but it is discouraging nonetheless. We'll see how the rest of this training cycle goes, I suppose. I have 4 more weeks of 80+ mpw, then I start my taper. Cherry Blossom 10 miler is 2 weeks before Boston, so it will be a good chance to measure my fitness. Hoping for sub 59:00.

Good luck man. Your Strava readouts have been solid.
LA Marathon this weekend. Got pulled last minute into a duo team; will be pushing a friend of mine's son in a wheelchair for a good portion of the race. I'm a bit relieved since she runs a little slower than I do (a good thing for my ankle recovery).
Although my midrange speed is getting better, I still have a ways to go. Need a few more months to dial in the long range miles.

That's awesome. We have quite a few here in the Run Club that do CIM and speak very highly of it.
LA was fantastic. My 2nd favorite marathon, right behind my first one back in 2014. Ran about 90 minutes slower than my usual, pacing my friend (she actually did most of the pushing). The miles breezed by - chatted the entire time lol. Had 0 complaints from the ankle. Weather was a cool 55-60* for most of the race.
Felt well enough to do an easy 3 tonight. I think I'm ready to take on some interval training (albeit carefully).
