Yup, almost lines up right with the top left corner of the park.

I shot it in RAW so it looked like this out of the camera:

So yeah, certainly plenty of post processing but nothing too intricate. Graduated filters on the sky to make it more interesting and then just general adjustments in LR. I think sharpening is the only thing I really did in Photoshop.

Dammit, it still looks pretty fucking good before. You got lucky with the sky, just the right amount of light, not too much and some awesome clouds. Really nice pic sir.

Thanks! I'm pretty thrilled with how it turned out.

And it's my neighborhood in the sense that downtown Steamboat is just out of frame on the right (the big building on that side is Colorado Mountain College, which is on the far end of downtown). This shot, however, was taken on top of a 90 meter ski jump looking north over the industrial outskirts of town. Obviously the light here was much better than Steamboat proper on account of that ridge blocking everything!

I did get second shot after this one - downtown Steamboat all lit up at night. It's taking a lot more editing to become something I like, but I'll post it up if/when it gets there.

So that's the downtown view just out of frame in the first photo. You can see the college and the ridge it's on as a reference point in each.

And congratulations on Motor Trend, Nate! What's the holy grail of professional automotive photography?

I think the light he's referring to is the one directly above his head, not coming in from off frame. I agree, it's a bit distracting.I think I have another shot with it isolated away from his head, have to go back and check.

The view coming down Rabbit Ears Pass into Steamboat is cool, too. That's one of the steeper grades I've seen in CO (that I bet gets closed in the winter months pretty often.)

Yeah, that's definitely a steep one. It's funny how many road cyclists were tackling that climb every time I drove that way over the summer.

And I've heard Rabbit Ears gets closed a few times a year usually. It's sort of weird living in a place that could be effectively closed off for a couple days at a time during big storms. I'm just hoping the pass doesn't get closed when I need to get to Denver for a flight or get home from Denver. I've heard stories of people leaving Denver, finding Rabbit Ear's closed and then turning around and finding the 70 west of Denver closed - effectively trapping them in Silverthorne I guess

I've definitely had to take the long way home during inclement weather because a hill is closed, only to find the alternate route really crazy dangerous to drive on. It's a real possibility for sure...we got stuck on the way back to Denver area coming from Durango one apparently clear night. Clear until we got to South Park and Kenosha Pass was closed. That took us over Hoosier pass to Breckenridge, which is like 11k feet and the road was a sheet of ice, and winds were 50mph and there was blowing snow. The car would just blow sideways while not even moving, sliding on ice because wind was pushing it. I was terrified because I was a passenger. Last winter I had to wait for Vail Pass to reopen to get home once, too.

first shot with the rented 135mm f/2 DC (at f/4 with the DC set to R4 which smooths out the background considerably). There's a fair bit of noise going on, I shot it in my dim-ish living room/kitchen at ISO 6400, but it doesn't really bother me. /low standards
