SO if you guys go for a ride, up where there's not really anything around, and you gotta poop...do you just go in a bush? my cousin said he saw a cyclist in markham popping a squat in a field. LOL risky?

I pulled up to him, but stayed a few meters behind (didn't want to chat - was in the middle a good Drake song ;\) ). I am checking this guy's shit out, it was an OOOOLD bike probably a 12 speed. Guy was 6'1 or so and maybe 150lbs very similar to your typical conditioned road cyclist. No shorts/jersey, just cargo shorts, helmet, and gloves. I am thinking to myself I am going to smoke this joker during the straight away half a km down

After 100m I was grasping at straws just to keep pace with this fuck, after a km I couldn't, dude just casually coasted away.

Can't seem to get out of the 27km/h range. I am assuming it's probably due to the elevation, on a flat I should be able to hold a 30??!?

HAHAHAHAHA
It's ok man. Lots of crazies out there, and you can't tell by how they look sometimes. You'll be able to hold 40+ in a group soon enough. Just ride in groups more \:D

What psi do you keep your tires at?

Read somewhere if you are over 180lbs to keep at max psi? My tires go up to 145.

I am going to be downtown today and I will need to buy a decent pump. MEC?

Shrug. I ride at 120 at the beginning of the week, and pump once weekly.
By EOW they are around 110. I am not particular about tire pressure. I know that higher pressure is not necessarily better for rolling resistance, but I'd rather have a stiffer tire carcass to resist squirming when out of the saddle + hammering.

No need to be so high on clinchers. Actually, a lot of people seem to recommend 110 or below.

I think I've been riding at like 80 lol, don't have a good pump. Have one of those small hand ones, complete POS.

n00b question, but how often are you out of the saddle on a ride? I am only out on acceleration off lights.

A HAND PUMP?
ZOMG. Actually, I was too ghetto when I first got my bike and did the same thing.
It sucks, and you will pinch flat too easily at 80psi--especially at your gorilla weight XD XD

Get a real pump man. It's well worth it. And don't cheap out on one either!

I am always out of the saddle. But everyone rides different. 355-SI says he's always in saddle--even when climbing. I am like a monkey and I'm standing a lot.

Hard accel - stand
Climbing - stand
Sustained climbing - alternate stand/sit, but probably more standing

Stand on hard accelerate or to switch muscle groups
Sit when climbing or most any other time.

I just can't do long stints or off the saddle.

My pressure is at 110psi... Max on the tire is 116.
That will change next week though (tubs)

Recommendation on pumps and where to get one?

I am going to try standing on my hill here, probably going to get up faster, but will be dead by the end. I can barely climb it now sitting down.

Any bike shop. FWIW I have a "JoeBlow" and it's been with me for 8+ years. When I used to work at a bike shop, we used to use cheapy pumps but quickly learned that they do not last, as we'd go through one in a month! So just get a decent one. IIRC the JoeBlow is 60 bucks or so. I got mine from CyclePath (Yonge/Finch).

Joe Blow are nice pumps. I got the mountain one for my MTB bikes. But when my wife got her bike I needed a high pressure one so I picked up a Lezyne Floor Drive pump.

Also have a Lezyne high pressure hand pump to carry with me on trails and such in case of any problems that may come up.

Do you guys carry CO2 cartridges or hand pumps on your rides?

How is the lezyne hand pump? They look nice. I also carry and a hand pump that i got from mec(sucks), but i also carry a spare tube and patches in my saddle bag. My main worry is being stuck with a pinch flat and not having a fix for it.

Haven't had to use it yet, but its light and small enough to throw in a shirt pocket

Euphoric, quit your bellyaching and just come out for the ride.

Total new question, and I know I can probably google to get an answer, but generally.. how long can you guys stay outhere riding until things are too dangerous? Meaning, when do you call it quits because of the snow/salt on the roads?

I'm seirously contemplating this as a hobby. I need to get myself active again, but I don't have the slightest clue where to begin (i.e., what type of bike to buy, how much to spend, etc.). There is a shop in Streetville here in Mississauga I might try and check out over the weekend to see if they can help. I don't trust myself buying used (didn't even know there are sizes to a bike.. lol I guess this isn't a walmart mountain bike).

Anyways.. any info that might help will be appreciated (Including Euphoric's ;))

via ciclante prices are a bit higher but its a decent place. Gears is at lakeshore and sauga rd if you looking for something that deals with a bit more higher volume (has quite a few good people on staff).

I use to knock off riding in the fall.

So long as no salt or brine on the roads, I'm go out year round on the road bike .

I ride my single speed around for errands all year round too.

As for rides, i won't go out in the pouring rain, but if it starts to rain during a ride, i just stay out.

Joe blow and only takes a few strokes to get to 120psi. I have yet to experience a flat at that pressure.
