You don't have to just take photos of god damn. There are many landscape sights and fish you can photograph as well...

This is one of my favorite pics from the tour of california. i followed the whole thing, and with the media pass I managed to secure, I met some press officers and got to go semi-behind the scenes with BMC Racing, which ended up winning the team classification and the overall with Tejay Van Garderen. Was a good time. Had an in with United Health Care, Garmin-Sharp, and Champion Systems, but couldn't work out the timing enough. That was unfortunate, I should have made it happen.
This is from the finish of stage two at the Palm Springs Tramway. Temps in team cars were triple digits, with one reading 117. It was fucking hot and miserable. One rider stopped about 1k from the finish to just take a break. I got some great photos of the riders recovering after the finish, really cool... It was so hot, the AF wasn't working correctly. It was hunting really badly for focus. I tried to shield the lens/body with my own shadow but it as soon as it went into the sun it'd start getting really hot to the touch. My feet were burning inside of my shoes. Ridiculous stage. I started out in Murrieta and shot the rider sign in, then hustled to Idyllwild as they went through the nice green mountains, then down to Palm Springs for the finish. Good stuff.

Maybe it's me, but nothing in that picture appears in focus. i went and double checked. it's a crop of a much larger pic. that said, it's not perfect, but for the most part seems to be ok  crop of this pic 
Ahhhh - that's why. I actually like the wide shot better.

South Park Basin (yes, this is where South Park from the cartoon is located)
Just for scale, here's 1:1 ish zoom where you can see some of the buildings down there.
This plain is at about 10000' elev., and this is where I've seen the nastiest winter weather ever in my life, lol.

Try some faster shutter shots as well. I'm all for soft water but it hurts my eyes after a while Freeze frame river shots are just as cool.
