Most excellent photo salty. As usual really... but that is one of my top 3 you've shared.

Got the good old Nex-3 out and attached my 30 dollar Polaroid wide angle adapter to the 18-55mm lens. I normally would have cropped the vignetting out of this image, but I like how it turned out...

I would have increased the DOF a bit more on that shot.

I wanted to see what 1.4 looked like. I thought it was a neat effect. Everyone takes shots of the wall dead on with all the names clear...Guess that's what makes photography an art?

Very nice Trench301. I'm glad I wasn't the only one snapping away at the Moon tonight. Only thing I recommend is that you should try converting that to Black&White, I think you'll be surprised at the result.

For this picture of the Super Moon, I got out my Orion XT6 telescope and connected my NEX-3 to it using a T-mount adapter. This was the first night I had seriously tried this. After 170 pictures, I finally got the hang of it. lol

The sky was cloudy and it is humid tonight. I tried using a purpose built Moon filter but it did nothing, the moon was surrounded by a Halo. I then put on a Neutral Density filter and what a difference, it was like the clouds weren't even there.

You really don't realize how fast the Moon moves across the sky till you look at it in a telescope. My telescope doesn't have a tracking mount, I had to rely on high shutter speeds and high ISO due to the motion blur. Even then, the pictures are a little blurry.

This picture is one of the better ones, it is uncropped.

Better? I think so. I need to figure out how to dial up the blacks to despeckle around the moon. But other than that, thanks for the suggestion! I am still learning...and appreciate any advice. This is FUN!

Too high an ISO, can you open the aperture, and drop the ISO some?
Unfortunately thats the best I can do on the aperture. I was shooting the 100-400L which at 400mm is a 5.6 aperture lens. With the 2x telecon I lose 2 full stops meaning f/11 is the widest I can go. If I had it to do again, I should have lowered the iso and gone with a slower shutter speed since I was on a tripod, to make it less noisy. Supposed to be another supermoon in July, so I'll try again.

What aperture you shooting at? If you could go a few stops lower and a little higher ISO (I'm guessing ISO200 or 400 you used) might help get the entire body in the focal plane.
I love macro photography, and hate it... because even at f/11 the DOF is so fucking slim.

edit - I do want to say I like the photo a lot.

Thanks. Aperture was somewhere between 5.6-8 IIRC. My lens is a legacy minolta lens so the camera doesn't capture aperture data. ISO was 400 and shutter speed was 1/500.
I shoot handheld...and I don't have a macro flash set up. So I've been trying to find the perfect combo of settings that will allow me to use higher shutter speeds to minimize camera shake, as well as the subject not being still.

I'm going to try ISO at 800 next time...I've seen shots at up to 1600 ISO with the Nex 6 that were still pretty sharp without any noticeable noise.

And I am totally with you on the love/hate. I was initially using a 50mm/3.5 macro lens...but the working distance literally an inch if i wanted to get to 1:1..it was impossible to shoot any moving subjects like bugs. I would take like 50+ shots and one would be actually usable. Now I use a 100mm lens...and the added working distance makes all the difference in the world.

Anyone know anything about exposure blending?
Here's me sightseeing again with no access to a computer. I tried auto exposure bracketing, so I've got 50-60 exposures of this shot

I don't think I've ever taken a macro shot that I like. It's just not my thing. Respect for those of you that can pull it off this well.
