I've been collecting LS parts like a front sump oil pan and LS1 intake manifold/exhaust manifolds. Tonight I'm going to try to pick up a rebuildable th400 for $80. All this for an engine I don't even own yet and a car that's probably too small to easily fit it all in.

Honestly, I don't see much trouble fitting/making the engine work in this thing...probably will be able to use off-the-shelf parts for virtually all of this.

To be honest though, for simplicity's sake, I'd have probably stuck w/ a TH350. That said, O/D is very cool. Considering an OD swap for the LRT.

No OD with the th400, its just the beefier version of the 350 (the 4l60/4l80 are OD though). I really hope Denmah thinks imitation is the sincerest form of flattery since I'm pretty much straight up ripping him off. I bought some 2.70 rear end gears for this.

I measured the th400 and a powerglide side by side and they were both ~28". The th400 wasn't really any fatter either, both were approximately 8" wide where they go into the tunnel, the 8" section of the th400 was a bit longer to accommodate the 3rd gear though.

I see a 5.3 short block for $250 and 5.3 long blocks for $500 (probably a core on the long blocks). Think its worth the extra $250 for heads and some hardware? I'm thinking probably so even if i would want to swap the heads. Its hard to find any local "dropout" motors. Bummer.

I also see a later model 4.8 for $577 (plus $100 core). This one should have the better rods.

Give up a little displacement for a stronger rod?

... or hold out for 6.0L (which go for $1200ish)? \:\)
