I've got the shortest race I'll have entered coming up next weekend (4.2 miler).
Should be fun, I've been doing nothing but trying to build a consistent base the past couple months now with 0 speed work so no idea what'll happen. I'm so used to the longer races where you spend the first 1/4 of it telling yourself to slow down/take it easy, I guess I'll just focus on burning it good the first mile and holding throughout.

I have no idea how fast you are now, but I'm just guessing you can run this around 6:20/mi pace or something? Just to ballpark it.
It's just enough longer than a 5K to cause some issues with your 5K pace I'm thinking...
I'm sure you have a better idea of current capability than I do //stravastalker

Brighton Marathon was awesome..finished in the 7500 out of 20604 runners with a time of 4:44mins. Top half of my age group 40-44 and 5400 male out of 12494
The run was great, lovely sunny day..lots of drink stations and run through shower points plus residents with hoses and water sprayers so it was no problem.
A really enjoyable experience, I'm feeling very proud of what I've achieved after being, in the words of my PT "This guy a year ago was in terrible shape and fitness (sorry mate) but has completely turned it around!"
If I can do it, anyone can.
Set a goal, smash it, repeat
Congrats on finishing your first!
I predict with that good of an experience, you'll want to do again. Way to stick with the training and get out there.

Here are a few shots from last week's Ragnar So Cal Relay.
I think most of you here are familiar with this style of race. So I will say that if you haven't done one, and are considering it, GET OUT THERE AND DO IT.
By far, one of my favorite events.

Thank you, I'm enjoying the freedom of being able to run without "having" to.
Good to be back at bootcamp though, first session since Marathon was on Saturday morning, then again last night. Great to be working the muscles I've hardly used in the last six months or so.
I've got my first OCR (Tough Mudder) coming up next month, I'm really looking forward to that. Have any of you done an OCR?

Several Spartans and mud runs here. The 5Ks are fun. 10Ks a little more challenging. Anything above that... bring a camelbak, extra sunblock, and some fuel.
I suggest working in some mild strength training if you can. Gloves and under armour go a long way too. Have fun!

Nice job man. I do about 2-3 a year. They are definitely a lot of fun and a good way to compliment strength training. I do mostly the longer Spartan races these days.
***************************
Work has been crazy the last 10 weeks. Very little training and no runs over 5-6 miles. Yet somehow got suckered into the Laguna Memorial Half by a couple friends. No sleep. No training. Quite a few hills. Yet scored within 90 seconds of my half marathon PR. Go figure...
Next week is the Rock n Roll Half with Team Hoyt. No F's given on time. Just going to enjoy the course and help push a chair with a friend. It was a humbling experience last year and looking forward to doing it again.

sounds cool
I have a sprint tri the end of this month and a 5k road race in SF that I havent cancelled yet. I think I'll be good to go but who knows. Might skip doing any runs whatsoever in front of the sprint tri though. Waiting until I've had a solid week or two of zero foot pain in the morning ..which I came close to this morning for the first time but that would still be cutting it close with this timeline
Otherwise I still have a:
50K in Oct Half in Oct 26.2 in Dec
that I've already signed up for. lol. Guessing next years SF half will be a good one for me, unsure about anything else this year, the 5Ks dont sound too bad [I've already run a half at the end of a 70.3 on the foot with all its current problems and warmed up in hokas it doesnt really bother me at all/barely noticeable]. Still something is definitely wrong as when I get up in the morning I'm basically a cripple.

Nice. I'm actually in SF this July running the half with my executive team lol. I've heard some of them actually run a sub-2hr half. So it should be interesting.

Oh nice, the 2nd half of the SF marAthon is pretty much the only competitive half in NorCal They have a 5k option which is the one I'm doing heh. I will consider it a huge stroke of luck if I'm running at all by then
July 23 I think
Zuckerberg was in the first half with the bridge last year and went 2:02 or so. It's a little hilly in the first half but no big deal

Cutting 10 minutes off a PR:good Taking 10 years: bad
Still cool to be able to train(even haphazardly) and do a half.
Happy to report that given my remaining goal for this year I will be doing no further lactate work. No idea how to enter the abyss of 4-7hours a week+ of running

ran 3x1 mile repeats yesterday as my only run of the week [/still injured]
fairly exciting in 90*F temps and peak day sunlight. Forgot how much running in a heat wave sucks

Trying to get momentum back to get my miles back up.
On one hand it's been cooler than the last few years, but I've keep waiting until mid-day to get out there, so enjoying those 80s...

My wife is doing that one to wrap up the Triple Crown series. I'll probably come down with the kids in the late morning to cheer on.
San Francisco half coming up!

Managed to squeeze out a 1:47:11 at the SF Half this past weekend. The reward? An inflamed nerve below the ball of my left foot. Chalking it up to cold weather and worn shoes.
Overall I was happy with how the race went. Some good hills before and after Golden Gate. But nothing horrible. Plan to come back next year.
Unfortunately, work stuff pulled me away from meeting up with Stickaz. So we'll try for another time.
