I say that too, but that's only because I STILL can't grasp layers or masks. I need a book and the time to read and play with it. I KNOW PS can improve my work.
That being said, Lightroom is cataloging software with a very powerful developing tool. It's still incredible to me.

Mike,
The picture is cute but I would work on the color balance as it seems a bit cool and sharpen the area around the eyes.
Here is my P-dog picture from a zoo:
I took the picture as a JPEG and had the color set to vivid so that is why it is so saturated.

I think this is the best I can do with Picasa:
I made some color presets for harsh sunlight (bumped up contrast and colors). Just didn't think about it when transitioning too the zoo.
Something else. Some pics are in Av, but I've found myself using manual mode 90% of the time now. Too many shots lost because the camera decided to give me a 2" exposure time or vice-versa.
There are more pictures of the Meerkats digging and kicking dirt everywhere. Still has some on his face.
Thanks.

Tried my hand at some more stylized photojournalistic type shots, I'm pretty happy with how they came out. I was going for something more obscure and less literal, there's nothing worse than 6 pages of cut and dry panning shots.
Full story coming in October, check the preview over on Speedhunters now!

Thanks.
Going through pics, I realized I left the shutter speed at 1/4000 in Tv mode (usually 1/125 to avoid blur from shake) from shooting the moon the other night. One more reason not to use auto modes.
The pics with high shutter speed and ISO look pretty good. A 4X6 would be pushing it, though.
The lions have a pretty nice area:

Those are rain drops. One of the 0.0003 second exposures.
Edit. Here are some birds:

I used a 70-200 F4L for the bird pics. A 55-250 would look about the same, but at a higher f-stop, with a little less background blur. Most birds I have posted weren't too far away - the 200mm is a little short for birding.
The only way to get better is to take bad pics first. I'm doing an excellent job at that, considering my keeper rate.
We both need to be shooting in RAW. I'm putting off trying it as well. Right now, I'm still learning basic tips and tricks after getting exposure down well enough to use manual.
Here is another pair of birds. Accidentally left the camera at 1/4000sec shutter, but it still came out ok:
Edit - get an "Exif Reader" plug-in for firefox, or whatever browser you use. If the photographer leaves the data there, then you can see what his settings were for the shot. That's how we're haX0ring into the pics you're posting.
