Did anyone else go to regionals?
went as a spectator to the SoCal regionals. Watched Bridges smash everyone. Guy is 5'6" (on a good day), and crushed it

Holy shit dude, Kelly Starret has become my favorite Youtube guy over the last couple months. I'm making huge progress in hip mobility and have completely started over on my squat form thanks to him.
Had no idea he had a book out and it's 5 stars on Amazon so I'm definitely getting it. Did you order the $33 hardcover or is there another version I'm not finding?

Anybody reading Becoming a Supple Leopard? I'm reading it now and it has some pretty profound ideas imo.
No, but I did buy the super nova ball, it fucking owns.

What are you doing for your hip mobility?
Oh sorry never came back to respond.

Well, I bought the Supple Leopard book. Freaking love it. Unreal all the things I've been doing wrong as far as stabilizing myself during heavy lifts. No wonder I've actually gone backwards instead of forward the last few years ...

Been working on all the concepts last few weeks and am definitely starting to understand what I've been doing wrong all along and feel like I'm progressing a bit. Going to take a long time to undo all the bad habits though I think.

 Good article!

I hadn't thought of it this way before but I think this line really captures my sentiment on why I'm liking crossfit so much: "It's also a place I go to play around.".

Been in crossfit about 3 weeks now. I've been so insanely structured the last 4 years and quite honestly I think it will do me some good to have no clue what I'm doing when I walk in the gym.

Finally broke into the 6's on Fran which means I've hit the median time for Men haha.
 Rounds went like this:

 1:22
 2:48
 2:23
 Total = 6:33

I was wearing my HR monitor which was steady over 180. I had to rest about a minute before I could even think about picking up the bar before the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

looks like you could definitely work on strategy
 round 1 - 1.95 sec/rep
 round 2 - 5.6 sec/rep
 round 3 - 7.94 sec/rep

so you're definitely burning out after the first round (i assume you are kipping the pull-ups). take the first round slower, get a breather on the bar and pull-ups around rep 15.

Yeah agreed - the 'girls' are about strategy big time...with Fran I take a rest until I know that when i get on the bar I can finish the reps unbroken. Biggest waste (especially on the Thruster..duh) is getting off the bar.

Kevin Ogar potentially severs spinal cord at T11/12 after dropping the bar on his back on a failed snatch, at a major weekend competition. he is currently paralyzed from the waist down.

This is the first major injury i've heard of in CrossFit, not including the occasional torn muscle or ligament which happens all the time in any activity.

he had no insurance. the event probably has no insurance. crossfit gyms cant get insurance, so they insure through crossfit HQ (i think). can HQ get insurance? dont know, they may self insure as well.

they cant get insurance. this is a reason why the big chain gyms have signs that say "No Deadlifting". that liability coverage is expensive if it's even available. I believe that crossfit gyms all pay a fee to the main crossfit company and they self-insure.
there is a rumor that his injury wasnt caused by dropping the bar but falling onto a stack of plates that had been left behind him, raising potential issues of liability

additionally, paramedics were not on site at the event.

crossfit created their own insurance company for it. my guess is if some jury awarded someone 50 million they're be fucked. crossfit does 'a lot' of business but not really. p90x has sold more.

everytime you think someone in CrossFit has done the dumbest thing ever, it gets topped
the workout for Kevin Ogar's crossfit gym:

 CrossFit Unbroken
 "Ogar"
 Amrap 14
 3 TnG Snatch (HAP)
 1 muscle up
 12 Wallballs 20/14.

 1) you just named a workout after him, and its going to include 14 minutes of doing the fucking exercise that he got injured on?? how does that honor someone? when they name a hero WOD after a soldier, it's not "try to dodge bullets for time" its typically a workout that person enjoyed.

 2) you want to see if anyone else gets hurt??

they're blowing up my fucking facebook with charity this and charity that. dude was strong as an ogre and snapped his shit up doing a touch and go snatch. You know this is what bothers me about crossfit. People just don't fucking listen to their bodies, it's like how karate was popular in the 70-90's and everyone just wanted to whirl fucking nunchucks instead of learning the basics.
Same with crossfit, nobody wants to understand the basics of fine tuning their bodies they just want to be bad ass, wave dicks and brag about pr's and that's why I distanced myself away from it.

I had a girl stay at my house this weekend getting her l1 cert (friend of girlfriends) and she has a fucked up shoulder pending surgery, and instead of saying to herself to back off and just perform what is required instead of saying "i have to go rx". She goes full retard with the mentality that she's going to have surgery on it anyway so might as well go balls out.

I just don't understand the mentality of some of these fucking people dude. I am 100 percent sure that guy didn't feel 100 percent going into that workout and paid for it worse than anyone else in the history of exercising has paid.

He's probably going to be a cripple now.

It's really unfortunate, and I can't even voice my opinion on the matter because I'm going to look like an asshole since he's someone the community gives 2 shits about.

This is pretty much spot on. I've already suffered a (minor) back injury doing Crossfit because I wasn't listening to my body.

Fuck a PR and fuck RX. You study the movements and become an expert with lower weights. Then, listen to you body and do what you feel like you're comfortable to move on, not some meat head L1 coach.
