thanks Parker. I've been reducing my usage of clarity as someone suggested awhile back. I've used the other settings that you used but I haven't really touched on the burn feature.

I like the look, but the quality of the image seems lacking. Everything out of focus looks rough.

the problem for me, if I may politely critique the photo, is that it would be a throwaway for me. It's just bad lighting...the sun is directly overhead...shit sucks.

how do you correct this without running around the subject trying to catch the right light or changing between multiple filters or lens shrouds all the time? set up a controlled environment or stage a shoot?

what's weird is that i've never learned how to do HDR. that's one shot that i edited. the original s hot was just very dark in the under carriage, cab, and other areas. i wanted to bring that out by

Parker, I think Nate covered that in that tutorial that he did on that Lexus. I haven't taken the time to try it since this was one photo by itself and I made the edits in LR

Ty, the thing about HDR is that you can't do it from a single frame, it's gotta be from a range of brackets where nothing moves between the shots. So inherently, you can't do that with a hand held shot, or a shot with a person in it because people move. The reason why this shot looks "like HDR" is because you've thrown the shadow slider up too far and killed your highlights as well. The ACR sliders are for global adjustments, so if you want to just brighten a certain part of the shot, use the adjustment brush, or the gradient tool to localize your changes. Eventually, you'll get to the point where you will be doing even more finite adjustments in Photoshop, and using layer masks etc... But for now, just try to keep it as "less is more."



While I agree with you, kind of, you sound like a huge asshole by saying it like that. I don't know why some of you guys are so overly harsh with Ty, he is trying hard, AND getting better. There's no point in being a bunch of fucks towards him every time he posts a new shot. Saying "make it better" is not critique, that's being a dick with no purpose.
