Haloing on that one is pretty distracting. Probably better using a more manual blend of exposures.

yeah, another horseshoe bend pic. i've been trying to edit one of these (all from the same trip) and save the sky. most of them have a completely washed out sky that i couldn't save, resulting in me cropping it right at the horizon. i finally took the RAW file and under exposed it a couple of stops, blended it back in and added some saturation, a cooling filter, and adjusted the levels. the sun is still washed out, but it's the sun so yeah. i've got a bunch of edits of this, but i think i like this one the best.

On the left side, where the sky meets the rock, the rock gets dark and the sky goes light relative to the other large areas of the same. It's not bad, but it's a bit distracting.

Yep, see it too but it isn't that bad.

People love to hate on HDR but honestly, in this case, it's very well done. Just tone back that slider that increases the haloing (can't remember the name) and you'll have a good file to "clean up" in photoshop.

I love this, but I'd put it through some lens correction or something. NONE of the hard straight lines are parallel or perpendicular to themselves, or the edges of the frame, and it's fucking with my eyes [/.02]

Better? I think there's some perspective distortion going on here as I was shooting upward, handheld, and there was no chance of me getting it perfect.

New Toyota "Supra," dubbed the FT-1. I shot the press pack for Toyota USA a while back and they revealed the car today at Detroit. All natural light, I had a FUCK LOAD of shots to do in one day, so all in all I'm happy with the results. Of course I wish I had more time with the car, but alas. Such are the dice of life.

I'll post one at a time for a while until you guys get sick of it.

First morning on Kauai. Went to the Pihea Trail at the far north end of Waimea Canyon/Koke'e Park. Left the house in Poipu at like 5, go there pretty quick, and then the sun didn't come up until after 7! So, to kill time we just went down the trail. It was a mix of red clay and lava flow. Pretty rad. Eventually we turned around and went back out, hitting all the scenic viewpoints we passed in the dark. I need to figure out how to process some of this stuff... Very misty/foggy/cloud cover today. Looks like it'll be more of that the rest of the week unfortunately.

ok ok ok ok i like this one. Couple more from this morning too at Hanalei, on the beach, that came out pretty good. We were a little slower leaving the house so we missed the pretty sky colors but it worked out. I'll go back in a couple of mornings to get the moon setting over the hills, tomorrow and Saturday I have to work for a bit in the mid day, so I'll stay close to the house, shoot the tree tunnel road at sunrise. I tried last night but too many cars. It'll be better in the morning.

huh, i swear it's sharper than this. Trying to figure out guidelines for best quality on Facebook and stuff now too, what a bummer.

Love that place. I think I've been to that clay/rock trail, and it was totally bizarre to watch it go from full sun to full fog in a few minutes. It rose up the hill like some freaky movie death fog.

Thanks Bill! Single exposure, really one of those moments of just being in the right place at the right time. Almost left 5 minutes earlier too I'm chillin at the water spout on the south side of the island waiting for the sunset. About 35-40 minutes now....

Went to the Koloa Spouting Horn last night for sunset. It ended up being a little too cloudy for the backlit shot of the spout I wanted to get. I tried to go to the tree covered road this morning by the house, and again, too cloudy. Then I drove a few minutes to the coast and it was incredible, but I didn't really have any good spots to stop at so I just drove around for awhile. Hanging at the house with wife today, rest of the family headed to the north side for the lighthouse, I needed some quiet time. Trying to work out my plans for the rest of the week. Want to go back to the canyon in the morning for a hike, in the evening for a shoot, a beach on the west side for a sunset, the tree tunnel for a sunset, the east side for a moonset in the morning... I'm really enjoying this island.

Taken with a Sigma XQ Filtermatic 28mm, using the built in LB 180 filter. Fun lens for $10 found on eBay.

And that's a color photograph

The mountain has gotten 208" of snow this year and probably 60" in the past couple weeks. It's wild.

My understanding is that Steamboat gets its snow from big arctic storms coming down from the north and Denver/Boulder gets snow from systems moving up from the south. That's why Denver is more likely to get the huge 36" blizzard every few years and Steamboat is more likely to get 10" a day for 10 days straight. We're only three hours apart but our weather patterns are entirely separate. At least that's what the old time locals tell me.

No, I watch the weather for snow here(it hasn't snowed in over 2 weeks), and i actually think of you when I see it's going to snow yet again in the Yampa valley and Steamboat and not here. I'm sure it's fine...I'd probably enjoy it.
