I never bracket.
I also don't even bother taking my camera out until evening for these landscape shots, because I know what the sky will do. It sucks that I'm so jaded now, because I miss a lot of good photos in the process. So yeah, just take pics as the sun's going down or early morning when the sun's coming up. If the sky is blazing, I try to avoid having any of it in the shot at all.

If the sky is blazing, I try to avoid having any of it in the shot at all. the one i posted above was just after sunrise. it was a three hour hike to that place that caused us to just miss the sun coming up. 
One thing you could do to that photo is at least add a layer to the furthest right side back mountains and add some contrast and another layer to tone the sky down some. Also the shadow on the center peak there could be darkened up some. The foreground is very good, just wish the rest or the mountains matched it better.
I'm the same as BobBarker though, I never bracket really and if I'm shooting in daytime sky, I watch where the sun is and work with it, or against it... or try and minimize the sky to just avoid it.
Your problem is that was too far after sunrise, even if just by a little bit.

dam brah...it's smokey there, too, huh. I couldn't even see the mountains yesterday...totally masked by smoke. I think we're all surrounded by burning states.

My cousin (not pictured) plays beer league hockey on Wednesday and Friday nights. they just started their playoffs this week. The ended up getting a 3-1 lead and then folding 5-3. They play at the practice rink for the Washington Capitals. Pretty cool to share the same ice as a NHL team. Lighting in the place sucked bad for pictures and there's no house flash.

Quick grab from a shoot I did last week up in Portland. I did the whole set like this — on a city street in a busy shopping district, with cars driving by and people in the background, a pretty far cry from the way I normally shoot feature cars by trying to basically isolate them from other cars and people. I kinda like how it turned out and it's something I definitely want to do more of.

The blue in the sky is a little too bright and distracts from the subject of the picture. My eyes instantaneously go to the blue. Otherwise great photo IMO.
