I agree with 137 on this (gasp...).
People will always be morons though, I see it with all sorts of activities not just Crossfit.

I used to be a snowboard coach and I cant tell you how many times people got hurt because they were not listening to their bodies and/or ability levels. Oh its your 3rd day riding..yeah you should go hit the 60 ft jumps in the park.

Easy to get hurt doing Crossfit...people get strangely addicted to it and are afraid to take rest days is my observation.

I enjoy it, and I love the results I have achieved thanks to it. Dont always go Rx'd nor do I always PR...but it is fun.

another injury at crossfit no wai! and before you (snatch is an olympic lift, blah blah blah) yes it is but not doing 307 of them within 15 minutes while doing cartwheels and 3 miles handstand walks. I see so many "acquaintances" with injuries from crossfit. albeit minor but still they are there.

can you show me the previous crossfit injury? in adult rec league soccer i see people going to the hospital almost every game. which is why i only play co-ed. crossfit, if you enjoy it as a sport, is one of the safer activities you can participate in outside of power walking.
and this happened to be his first lift. the previous event was a run several hours earlier

i do think that they need to drop the 'olympic lifts for time' at least at the competitive level. same thing with being allowed to press out an olympic lift, they should make it a no rep. A couple years ago, someone like Kevin Ogar at that competition would have had 50lb less on the bar. In a couple years they will have 50lb more than today. That greatly increases the chance for these types of injuries, so unless they make programming changes I think there will start to be more injuries at the top level. There's some pretty brutal injuries in top level Olympic lifting and strongman stuff which only occur because of the strength those athletes are capable of

Yeah I agree with this. Those WODs can b fun but usually leave you tweaked and require serious mobility afterwards...at least for me.

I bought a groupon deal to a crossfit gym about a month ago. $129 for 3 months unlimited. Only requirement, is that you attend 4 foundational classes. I start Tuesday and cannot wait.

It was quite comical when this newest workout thingy was released and i saw all the cross-unfit pretenders all boo-hissing because they couldnt do double-unders.
It put a smile on my face.

Why? It's fun. I know I'm not going to win or even be ranked in the top 5%, but it's still exciting to compete.

 Why not...?

It's 20 bucks and its pretty fun. Not expecting to win...looking to compete with my buddies and push myself.

Your first year or two it is, then you realize you can just show up and do it anyway and not have it count and save your money. I just don't see the point of paying to participate in something. It's not like you get a free hat or a shirt or something for signing up. You just put more money in drunk ass glassmans pocket.

I think it's the same reason why most people sign up for a 10k. You know you're likely not going to win, but there's thrill in competing and you end up pushing yourself harder than you would otherwise.

Good example: I did the 14.4 workout on Friday at my gym (60 calories on the rower, 50 toes-to-bars, 40 wall balls, 30 135# power cleans and 20 muscle ups, as many as possible in 14 minutes). I came back on Sunday, pushed myself harder, squeaked out 10 extra reps and ended up moving up 7000 places on the leaderboard. At the end of the day it's meaningless to the competition, but I pushed myself further than I thought I could on Friday. That's worth $20 to me.

are you allowed to just show up at a 10k and run without paying? i assume not. i did the open twice and paid for it, but with the # of competitors now, i just wouldnt. it used to be cool to see that i was 200th in the region and think thats pretty good. i dont need to see now that im 3,000th in the region.
i would contribute $20 to a March Madness pool with a dozen friends. I would not contribute $20 to a ESPN March madness pool with a million people.

just came across my games page from 2011...wow. So i came in about 690th in the region on the 1st WOD that year. They did the same 1st WOD this year. I would have been 4,060th in the region with the same score.

just out of curiosity i looked at this further

my 2011 score was 40th percentile, in 2014 the same score would have been 50th percentile
there were 8 times as many male competitors in my region
women went from 36.5% to 40.8% of the field
as a percentage there were twice as many '1 rep' results posted

Progression wise you should have been able to improve on your personal result in 3 years. I'd bet you'd fall in the same or better range with updated results.

yes, im saying that even if i had posted the same score 3 years later i would have been higher ranked as a percentile; 40th to 50th.
so while there are 8x as many people competing now, the field is weaker

The vest was a killer...fucking killed me on the push-ups the most probably.
I like that workout...I did it as a 20 round Cindy (5/10/15). Worked through it and just kept moving...that last run was brutal but at that point it was all mental.

Originally was not going to use a vest but 3 other guys were doing it so I jumped on the bandwagon.

Paleo-ish...
Very little simple carbs, pretty much have eliminated bread and pasta though I will eat a piece of bread maybe once a week (burger for example). Lots of fats and no sugars (as little as possible), no dairy with the exception of plain organic yogurt.

Lots of meat, lots of green veggies, sweet potatoes, yogurt, nuts seeds, very little booze (3-4 drinks per week) and no processed food

 Probably consume 2500 calories a day...estimate as I don't count. When I'm hungry I eat.

I did the whole paleo thing for a while, about 2 months. It did not work for me...energy levels went way down and performance suffered. Removing things like protein shakes was the real killer...my body just needed those extra calories it provides. But I was not doing it to lose weight, just to experiment really. I'm sure for losing weight it works great. I'm lean as it is and with the workload I put in; 5 days xfit + 3-4 mountain bike rides a week i was not able to sustain the weight and felt like I was literally eating non-stop.

I suggest everyone try it just to see...do the whole 30 challenge even. Its pretty easy to follow and if nothing else a nice detox.

 Edit: 5'10" 180 lbs.

Pretty much my diet here too. Here's what I'll eat in a typical day (250lb, 6'7" guy though):
Breakfast: zone friendly fritata (1 egg, bacon, yellow squash, onion), cup of black coffee with coconut milk

Snack: protein shake with coconut milk and flax seed oil

Lunch: two pieces of grilled chicken, mixed veggies, brown rice

Snack: handful of almonds and an apple

Dinner: 1.5 cups of pasta, 6 meatballs, 2 cups of broccoli

Snack: Teaspoon of almond butter or a hardboiled egg

I cheat 4-5 times a week with cookies, ice cream or candy. I also will enjoy pizza once in a while. I pretty much avoid all white carbs otherwise. I also drink red wine 2-3 days a week and have some beers/bourbon once or twice a week.
