I just did my best three mile time.. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/70087487
Ran 23:23.. prior to that my best was 24:43

Was shooting for under 25 minutes and snuck in by about 10 seconds! Having done some speed work helped - I knew I wouldn't die even when my heart felt like it wanted to explode. The course was in my neighborhood - literally ran past my front door - so it was streets I knew well. Only really tough part was the 4th k which was pretty much all uphill. We had run pretty hard in the earlier downhill parts of the race knowing that it would be uphill at the end and I was hurting pretty good when that hill came around.

When my wife and I registered there was only one chip left and they gave it to me without us really thinking about it. Should have given it to my wife - she finished with me and would have placed 5th in her age group based on my time. This wasn't a huge race as it was its first year, and she only missed 3rd by about 20 seconds. She told me she had the gas to drop me in the last 2k and would have done it had she been wearing the chip, so she might have been able to place.

Nice job dude!

Had a low mileage week running last week as I've been trying to take it easy. Anything over 4 miles and my IT starts acting up. I think I'm just gonna have to not run the next two weeks until the 1/2 mary on the 13th.

The silver lining is that I've been putting some real good time in on the bike. Last week I rode on the trainer 3 days (hour each time) and did a good 40 miler on the road on sunday. Gonna try and ride every day this week to make up for the lack of running.

Any chance it's your shoes? The "experts" at my local running store had me in some Asics that the people at RoadRunnerSports said were a horrible shoe for me. Too much $$$$ and rotating through 3 pair of running shoes this year and I am good to go.

Give me a few more years of serious marathon training before it's triathlon time \:\)

Still waiting for the road bike we ordered for my wife to come in.

I thought it might have been, but I rotate through 3 different pairs of shoes, from cushioned to flats, and I couldn't narrow it down to any one that was causing the issue. I even got some brand new LunaRacers and I still get the issues (awesome shoe otherwise). I'm pretty sure it started one week a month back were I really bumped my mileage (went from 25 to 38) and on one long run it started hurting. I took a week off and started again with no issues. Then during that half 2 weeks ago, it flared up. I haven't given it an honest chance to heal though..and that's my fault. Only 4 months till IM CdA, so I don't want to take any run time off...but I know I need to. Just gonna shoot for a solid PR in this half on St Patty's day (sub 1:45), then do 2 or 3 weeks of solid swim/bike building and let it heal.

If you can run 11mi you'll have no problem with going another 2, especially with all the other runners around you.

Well...even though I'm suffering through a head cold right now, today I was able to get some good training in.

3.5 mile run, 20mile/hour long ride on the trainer, and a 2000 yard swim.

It looks like 3.5-4 miles is the limit of where I can run with no pain before the knee starts acting up. Everything I've read says that with IT issues, you can still run, just stop once you start feeling pain. I figure I can still get in 23 miles a week while I let it heal....which is great.

So after doing the Sufferfest Revolver workout on my bike yesterday morning, I got up a little before 6 am this morning for a 5 mile run. First mile and half or so feels pretty good, but somewhere between 2 and 2.5 miles I've got serious fatigue setting in. I ended up with about 4.4 miles and those last two were really brutal.

Pace of 9:16/mile for those parts of the run where I actually ran. I stopped my watch when I stopped at intersections (which I intentionally did more than usual) and for the few walk breaks I took.

Not a good run, but I'll just tell myself that even though it sucked there should be some payoff in the end for the effort I did put in today by doing some running when my body told me it wanted to quit.

You got it. You might not have pushed your muscles or lungs but you pushed your mental toughness, which is plenty important on race day.

That sounds pretty fuckin cool getting to run around monuments and shit..

Just got back from a 6.4 mile run @ 8:47 pace. I mean to go 6 miles, but took a wrong turn and added .4 miles to my trip lol.
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/71261749

I didnt warmup well enough or something because my left calf started to tighten up only 2 miles in. I probably could have gone a bit faster or farther or both because I dont feel winded or out of energy at all right now.

7 miles at a 7:54 pace. Knee only twanged twice on me but I slowed it down a beat and it was gone. I think the key for now is to avoid hills at all costs, and keep my turnover high and low to the ground.
Also did an hour on the trainer earlier today. Planning on a 50 miler this weekend.

First time posting in this thread for a very long time.

I've been training for a half on March 20 (2 weeks from today) and I ran 11 miles yesterday @ 8:01/mile. Felt pretty good after wards. Hoping to break the 1:45 mark for the half.

Has anyone ran with a pace group for a marathon before? I tossing the idea around but I'm not sure if it would help me or hinder me.

My wife and sister in law kept the 4:30 pace group in sight for their first marathon back in October, but ended up going more by their GPS watches because they were far more consitent. She said they were surprised at how big the group was that was clustered around the pace group.

I just don't want to be "that guy" that either gets dropped by the group or feel the need to go faster.

In the LB marathon, the pacers had balloons tied to their waists with the pace written on them. You could see them from a long way off. You could always start a bit behind, then if you need to get ahead or try to catch the next faster group. \:D

Taking it easy this week in anticipation of the St. Patty's Day run on Saturday. Did 4 miles on Tuesday and will do 2 or 3 today. Been doing some low resistance riding on my rollers to keep my cycling fitness up, if not progressing.

Going to shoot for sub 42 minutes for Saturday's five mile run. 40 minutes would be great but not sure I can maintain that pace for that distance.

After this Saturday it will be a full bore switch to cycling with just a couple runs per week.

Weather was perfect. Time was 41:20 which I'm plenty happy with. My primary goal was to get under 42 minutes as I felt confident I had that in me. Super optimistic goal was sub 40 but between me just not being quite fit enough and the fact that there are about 15,000 people to dodge, I didn't really believe I would get there. We got lined up relatively close to the front but still did more sideways running in the first mile than we would have liked.

Wife ran it with me and I stayed mostly with her until the end of mile three. The third mile ended as we crested a hill and my heart rate hit 185. The highest I knew I could sustain through the remainder of the race without blowing up was about 178-180, so I tried to recover a bit and she proceeded to drop me. She finished in 40:45.

This same run was, last year, the first run I'd ever signed up for and the first time I'd ever run 5 miles. I shaved 8 minutes off from last year's run. Hopefully next year I can get under 40 minutes.

Congrats dude

I may have to pull out of my half marathon. Dove say that I sustained an abdominal wall muscle sprain/pull down between my groin/hip area but with it happening Monday morning and the pain not letting up since....I'm starting to think I won't be fully healed up for the run on the 26th.

Sucks since I put in all that training since jan 1st

Finished my second half with a PR of 1:42:39. Averaged a 7:48 pace. Even better is that I had ZERO IT pain the whole race. I'm pretty stoked for sure.

My wife ran a 1:56 and my dad did a 2:02.
My bastard brother took it easy and cruised along with for the whole race. He ran a 1:20 on this course last year.
