This is the only photo I got to take of the L Blast Furnace at Bethlehem Steel. The blast furnace was demolished today, which represents the symbolic death of the once great steel empire at Sparrows Point, MD even though actual production stopped there years ago. My grandfather worked as an electrician on the furnaces at the mill, a story common to most lifetime Baltimore residents. The destruction of the tower further erases the memory of when we actually produced things in this country. Sad to see it go...
