Not too too much more to add now that I'm sober and relaxed.

The course as I ran it:
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/127342529
Pretty flat, although you get about 90 feet in about 1/2 mile going over the highway. It didn't feel like anything when I did it early on but it was a pain coming back at mile 21.

* As others noted, the "never again" feeling is gone and I am going to run another marathon - I don't feel satisfied with my performance even though I am happy with my time.

* From what I saw, these are very well managed and supported marathons. The Savannah one went very smoothly. It would have been nice if the course had been more scenic (it spent some time in the semi-ghetto and plenty on the highway and only a little in the historic district) but it's not like you can fit all 26 miles into the historic district. So, pretty great course, very flat until the rolling on/offramps on the highway, good support, the bands are cool. Strong recommendation. Got emailed with nicely tagged pics from Brightroom the day after the race too.

* I put bodyglide on my nipples, taint area, thighs, and all other "creases" down below. Unfortunately at mile 20-21 I started to feel some chafing on my willy. It only got worse and I have a pretty bad chafe on my wanger now. Lesson learned, will put bodyglide on the dingaling next time.

Earlier this summer I hit 24:44
Last month I hit 23:39
And just last friday I have a new personal best 22:26

I have a goal to get my time to 19:xx before the end of the year.

Shorty after posting this I did a 10k trail run and developed pretty bad shin splints. After a month completely out of the game I went down to tri-sports, had my gait examined, bought new shoes to correct over-pronation and completely reworked my run mechanics. Since then I have slowly been ramping up mileage and have managed to stay healthy ever since. This 19.xx goal kinda got lost in the shuffle and now I have 7 weeks to reach it.

Tonight I tried for the first time since my injury and set a new PR pf 22:12. Not much better but 14 seconds is 14 seconds. I've already mentioned in this thread that I'm currently training for a marathon so I'll be only trying to accomplish this goal Tuesday nights since I don't really want to mess with anything else on my schedule. That leaves 7 more attempts. Wish me luck \:\)

Nice job man.....and good call on trisports....they are a fantasgic company and I order a lot of my gear from them.

I'm hoping to focus on doing some short races early next year so I can see how all the training has paid off in the short game.

20 miler 2 nights ago. Legs and lungs feel good and I've been walking around pain free. Now for the taper.

side note: My sub 20min 3m run goal totally went by the wayside. It's still a goal but focusing on upping my milage left no juice for me to try to break short run PRs.

Sweet. I love hitting those big mile PR's....such an awesome feeling of accomplishment when you're done.

As for the 5k time....if you're anything like me, you'll be surprised how the shorter times have come down without doing anything specific to do so. Seems to be a nice benefit of all those long miles going slow(er), your body really wants to run fast when it knows it only has to do a fraction of the distance.

These long runs have done a ton for my perspective on short distances. It's pretty insane to me how an 8 mile run has become a short "fun" run. This time last year a mile long trot around my neighborhood would bring me to my knees.

I'm looking forward to not having to constrain to a schedule. Working on those short PRs is something I'm really looking forward to. Plus a lot more pool and saddle time, which I desperately need as my last pool and bike outtings have shown.

I'll be training for http://espnwwos.disney.go.com/events/rundisney/tower-of-terror-10-miler

Will be my first 10 mile run. I'm hoping to average 8 min miles. We shall see how training goes.

I was just thinking about this thread yesterday, or starting a new one for 2012.

I've done short 1-3 mile warm up runs when I've been to the gym, which hasn't been much for the last month. But the days are getting longer which means I'll be able to get back to running outside. There is a half marathon here in two months which I would kind of like to do. Need to go out for a five or six mile run this weekend and see how it feels to gauge whether I can be ready.

The wife and I are doing the same half we did last year up in Sacramento next month. Both shooting for a good PR:

Me: ran a 1:42 last year, want to go 1:39.
Her: ran 1:51 last year, wants to go 1:44 this year.

My training runs leading up to the race last year were around 8:15 pace, and I ran a 7:47 pace in the race. Currently my mid distance runs (7-12 miles) are in the 7:20 range, so if history repeats and the adrenaline and race excitement/competitiveness help me out, I think I can run a 7:20 pace and crush my goal.

Damn I feel so slow compared to everybody. My fast runs are at 8:30 pace for 5-6 miles max. Last weekends long run was 12 miles at 10 min/mile pace.

First half is on Sunday I hope a can get it done in under 2 hours. My diet and overall training has been crap this week.

Ohh and I can't wait for the taper and I am not even halfway done with the training.

This thread is awesome, I cant believe I havent been in the fitness forum yet.
Got my 3rd 20 miler of my training on Sunday, giving me 50 miles for this week.
I'm feeling a little beat up in places and think I need some new shoes to lift my spirits. \:D
I have put 400 miles on my Zoot Ultra Kanes in the last 3 months.

This was from my last 20 miler, good splits to, my last 4 miles were all sub 8.
Race goal is sub 3:30.

Nice job man. Looks like we're at about the same place right now. I don't have any standalone marathons planned for this year, but my half goal for next month is in the 1:35 range, and I ran a 3:42 in my first standalone mary last August after doing no marathon specific training (basically ran it off my fitness from the Ironman 2 months before.) I kinda blew up in the last 6 miles...I should have been closer to 3:30.

I can't believe this is my first post ever in the Fitness forum since workouts and racing is such a large part of my life.

Anywho, I've been doing tri's (up to Olympic distance) for about 4 years now, but my longest run race is currently a 10K and my 10K PR (46:30) was done DURING an Olympic tri. Needless to say, I need to start running some more races since my running fitness has gotten much better over the past year.

Currently my race PRs are:
5K - 19:26 (6:15/mi) 11/24/11
4 mile - 26:00 (6:30/mi) 7/4/11
10K - 46:30 (7:29/mi) 6/25/11 During Olympic tri

I think I'm going to do a half marathon on April 1st and I've been stretching the distance out on my runs a bit for the last few months.

Yesterday I ran 11.5 miles in 1:27 (7:33/mi) and felt fantastic. I think I'm ready to rip of a sub 1:35 half marathon!

1:35 is my goal for my half in 2 weeks. McMillan says I should hit 1:34 based on my recent 20:32 5k.

What's your PR for your oly tri? Last one I did was a year and a half ago...only 4 months training and I managed a 2:42. I'm hoping for closer to 2:20 this Sunday.

2:25 last June. Should smash that this year assuming I don't get injured and it's not 90 degrees out during my races.

Good luck on Sunday!

Did the Rock N Roll Marathon in New Orleans this morning. Unofficial was posted at 4:04:17. Was really hoping to break 4 but I'm still stoked since this was my first. I'll definitely be doing another.

I felt fantastic through 13.1,I thought my split was going to be good but around mile 18 I realized I may have pushed to hard the first half. My lungs and legs felt pretty good till mile 22 and my legs started cramping hard. I slowed down ran through the cramps and at 24 the cramps were gone but my legs were done my lungs were never an issue. Hardest 2.2 miles of my life. Anyhow I feel surprisingly good now. At my friends house and everyone is showering. Time to get drunk!

Nice Job on the RnR Marathon!! It seems that alot of people start to have issues around 17-19mi in. The exact same thing happened to me last year at the Cleveland Marathon except mine also included the dreaded bathroom stop.

Had a fantastic race this morning in Palm Springs. International distance which means it's whatever they want it to be, but in this case it was a 3/4mile swim, 24 mile bike, and 6 mile run.
Had to get up at 3:30 to drive the 2 hours out there, but had plenty of time to get ready after checking in.

Overall 2:13. 17/73 in my age group.

Swim 21:43: Unfortunately I haven't swam a single lap since IMAZ back in November. I knew it would hinder me, but figured my overall fitness was good enough. ater was mid 60's, but didn't feel too cold after warming up a bit. Once we were off, I really felt me lack of swim fitness. \:\( Oh well, focused on staying smooth and I was out of the water 27/73 in my AG.

Bike 1:04, Avg speed 22.4 mph: This felt great. Wore my new aero helmet and settled into a nice clip right off the bat. Only had 3 guys pass me the whole ride....which is a nice change of pace. lol.

Run 44:15 7:22/mi This went even better than the bike. 2 loop course around the lake we swam in. kept things nice and in control for the first loop to let me legs adjust. Did the first loop in 22:30. Second loop I found my stride and started picking up the pace. Ran the second 3 in 21:30.

Overall I'm really happy. Only my second year in the sport, and I didn't do any shorter distance tris last year, but I'm seeing major improvements. Hoping In can crack the top 10 next year.

Sweet. Yeah, those shorter distance ones seem a LOT more sane than the Ironman stuff. It actually sounds like fun.

That average speed on the bike is FLYING. That's where all of your aero did something. Had to be worth an extra 1-1.5 mph overall, because damn--blazing. Great overall result. Must feel great to finish ahead of so many people.

2:13 sounds like it can still fall in the "fun" category in terms of exertion.
If I had any sort of swim form and I were still running, I'd be tempted. \:\)

Maybe I don't rotate my torso as much but I've never had an issue with nipple chaffing on long runs. I might be lucky though \:\)

Warrior dash coming up on the 31st. My goal is sub 30 min. I've been running more and more the past few months and am getting faster but not as fast as I'd like to be. I typically run a 5k in 22-23 min with my best being 21:29 so I assume that I'll get a bit quicker between now and the run and allot 7 minutes for obstacles.

For those that have run warrior dash what were your times?

Ran 13.5mi today in 1:43. Not bad since it was the first warm day around here since fall and my body isn't used to running above 40F.

Will be picking up the pace a bit for my half on April 1st.
