Haha.

I tried the NB Minimus road and they were ok. I have a habit of trying to do too much, too soon when I go minimal and I end up hurting myself a couple months into it. They weren't horrible, but they aren't my favorite either.

So decided to try some yasso 800's last night.
If you dont know it is 800m intervals ran at your marathon goal pace, so if you want to do a 3:15 marathon you try and run your 800's in 3:15, pretty simple.
Well my probably way to lofty goal for my next marathon is under 3:05 for BQ, so 3:05 800's for my workout.
I went out for my first 800 at what felt like a comfortable pace and ended up doing it in 2:55, next one was exactly the same.
Next two were 2:57 and 2:58 and the final two were 3:02 and 2:59, for a total of 6x800 at an average of about 2:58.
Think I'm gonna make these part of my weekly work and work up to 10x800.

Love this run!

Only did 37 miles this week but did some good speedwork and hills, so I feel good about it.

for those of you who run 10+ miles...

is it hard for you to find a route to run or is it easy in your area

just mapped out a run for my first ten miler of this program that i am on and holy fuck, just visioning it (what the elevation changes are since i drive that route alot) was painfl.

first 1.5miles = slow gradual downhill
2.8 miles = rolling gradual uphill with a few areas that are flat and then continuing uphill
1.2 miles = downhill to turn around point

follow the route back home from the turn around point

Easy. Almost all of my runs are variations on the same loop. If its a shorter run, I turn early...longer I turn later. I also switch up the direction as it changes the number of hills, wind, etc.

I'm pretty lucky that I live about a half mile from an awesome trail thats a good 10+ miles long.
I drive about 15 minutes to an open space preserve to do my hill runs.

My wife has the kids trained to tell me how stinky and gross I am when I get back from a run, they wont come near me.

Did my first ever 10 mile training run in 1:32:55. I'm 5 weeks into a 10 week plan for next month's Hottest Half in Dallas (my first organized event in 18 years). Started out strong this morning and faded hard at the 8.5 mile point. I tried gels for the first time during the run and I honestly think they helped. Last week I ran 8 miles in 1:25 without them, so today was a pleasant surprise.

My goal was originally just to finish next month's half, but I'm thinking of tweaking it to trying to break 2 hours. We'll see...it's obviously going to depend on how hot it is.

Find a shaded route & it feels like over 10 degrees off what the stated temp is

I went out yesterday morning and did my longest run to date. 4.9 miles in 47 minutes. Wholly shit was it hot. I got a late start, about 10 and it was already probably 95 degrees. Ridiculous! I felt great though. I've been doing 2-3 mile runs at night so it was good to see that I can do a longer distance and still be ok.

I haven't worked out at the gym in about 2 months and just now going to get back in it. Cardio wise, is there a huge benefit in doing treadmill over elliptical? Do you lose a lot more fat from running over elliptical or other forms of cardio? Apologies if this was asked before.

What program is that? I'd love to have something similar for riding my bike.

I'm not sure what your goal is but in my experience the elliptical never really prepares me for actual running. You're also supposed to put the incline up to at least one on a treadmill to simulate running outside.

Of course, if you're just looking to lose weight then I have no idea.. \:D

I am not really preparing for anything just trying to lean out. My routine is weight lifting 4-5 days a week with 40 minutes of elliptical after every work out. At leased this is how I did it before. I intake about 1250-1500 calories daily. 5'7 177lbs, would like to get down to 160ish.

I start the elliptical at incline 8 and resistance 8, then at the 10min mark I would increase the incline by 1 and resistance by 2. I do this at every 10min mark. So from 30min to 40min I am at incline 11 and resistance 14. Just concerned that the cardio might be too much or other cardio routines might be better for what I want.

Awesome run tonight. 14 minutes straight, met my wife at the park for 7 minute walk, and then ran 8 minutes home. Easily could have ran for a bit longer. Beautiful weather in Cincy tonight, too.

2.6 Miles.

I cant tell you which is better but Ive lost a ton of weight using the elliptical over the past few months. I only started running once I lost enough weight so it would be easier on my already bad knees so if thats a problem I'd go with the elliptical

Anybody using a fuel/water belt. I just picked up a single bottle because I just can't handle the 85-95 heat at night and am hoping it will help on 5+ mile runs.

I typically don't run longer than an hour, so I bring nothing. But when it got to 95 here, I brought a bottle of Gatorade (the light one) with me and just ran with it in my hand. After halfway, it was empty so I ditched it.

I use the 2 bottle fuel belt on my runs over an hour. It's also got the pouch which is nice for carrying gels. If you had a smaller phone, it might fit in there, but I don't think anything the size of an iPhone will.

here

It was cheap and its actually awesome. Did a ten mile run with it
and it stayed put. Ive tried some waist bands but they annoy me with
the weight of the water bouncing around. Ill be running close to 12 miles with it
on friday and having that water is a big big help.
