Lol, we had a cold snap last week. Got down to 35 degrees at night.

Did 4 miles today with the girl in her stroller. She got heavier over the Xmas break. It was a struggle to hold 8:45.

8.5 miles at an 8:06 pace. I constantly amazed with how much I'm progressing. I felt freaking great the whole way too.

20 mile ride at 19.8 mph yesterday morning then a 5 mile run at a 7:42 pace last night. About to head out on a 40 mile bike ride.

Weight loss stage 2 started a few days ago. Well be in Hawaii the first week of April and I want to look fantastic.

Took a 42 mile ride to bonktown today! Had only eaten 2 bananas before heading out, then forgot to bring anything along on the bike, so after the turnaround....fuuucccckkkkkk. It was painful. All I could think about was food.

Oh well. The wife is on the way home with some In n Out. I'll still be in a good 1500 calorie deficit.

Terrible first week of training for my May marathon. Nothing like 45 treadmill miles with a whopping 8 miles outside! Sadly, this will be my lowest weekly mileage until the week before the marathon.

Stretch, whats your peak mileage in prep for your marathons?

I'm guessing I'll be at about 50 a few weeks before the IM.

Finally got outside yesterday for my 6 miles. It wasn't as cold as I thought it would be, but the wind was howling.

totally lost my speed since my last outing - did the 6 in 54:30, around 9:03 pace. Before I took my winter hiatus I was doing 6 in around 51 minutes.

damn you laziness!!!

the wind took some of your air. were you running into it or against it?

if you were running into it..yeah, there's your reason for running slower. Running with itat your back....i think it could still take some out of you.

fuck...looks like i will be running a 2.5hr half marathon unless they have elevation changes which can speed up my time. the race description says that its one of the fastest looped courses in the country

it was a loop so there were times when I was running with it, and then times when it was right in my face. I think it was less about the wind and more about me not running on pavement in the past 4 weeks...

I checked out your plan for the half and I think it looks good, but what's with the drop off in the long runs a third of the way through? You go 7,7,8 then it drops down to 5, then back up to 9s? Looks strange, but again I'm no expert.

i guess they're giving me time to not burnout my legs.

i hit the seven mile range this thursday. i'm thinking about doing that run at 4am. it should take me about an hour or a little more to run it, so i have to make sure there is a nice hour long program on xfinity to take my mind off of it.

Most plans I've seen do have a recovery week, where the long run tapers way back, but then resumes the following week.

I'm seriously contemplating running the Palm Springs half marathon, which is the day after the Tour de Palm Springs 100 mile ride I'm doing. I'm already doing a half in March, but this would make for a fantastic training weekend. Hmmm...

It goes up to 75. This year, of the 16 weeks (not including the first and last week) the mileage goes from 55-75. I am using a program by Pfitz out of the legendary book "Advanced Marathoning"

Just got done doing 6 miles pushing the stroller. Averaged an 8:37 pace, which is decent pushing an extra 40 pounds.

I actually tried 5 hour energy for the first time today. A 2 pack was on sale at target, so I picked it up. It did give me a good energy boost, but made me jittery as hell. Not gonna be a regular thing, but I can see it being useful on my really long bike/runs.

Brought my cold weather running gear with me to NYC so I could run in central park tOmorrow morning. It appears that the foot of snow expected will keep me to the hotel treadmill.

Whew! Had a very productive training day.

Started with a 5 mile run with the baby this morning.
Then this afternoon I ran 2.5 miles to the pool, swam 3x500 and 5x100 at all out pace, then ran 2.5 miles home. I'm freaking beat......and about to grub down on a plate of Wahoos blackened fish!

Let's hope I get my legs back soon, I just signed up for the Cleveland Marathon, on May 15.

I had the last of my leg surgeries Thursday. And I still have to take it easy for about 2-3 weeks.

Spent the day with the family and my parents at Joshua Tree climbing around, so no workout today. My dad and I are doing a 40 mile ride in the morning, and then I have a 10 mile run planned for the evening. I do that and I hit 38 miles for the week.

Officially started training for this year's St. Patrick's day run. Its a 5 mile run. Did it last year and it was my first organized run ever. Also the first time I'd ever run more than 4 miles in my life. My goal was under 50 minutes which I made by mere seconds. The route is a little hillier than what I was used to in my training and I did have to take one walk break around the 3 mile mark.

So this year the distance isn't really an issue, nor is running the entire distance or the hills. This year I'd like to improve on my time. Goal is sub 42:30 (8:30 per mile). So I started Hal Higdon's intermediate 8k/5m training plan today with an easy 3 miler on the treadmill. Not sure on my pace as my Garmin and the treadmill tended to be about 30ish seconds per mile different - need to get to the track to calibrate the Garmin. It wasn't anything to write home about since my goal was heart rate under 160 bpm, i.e. top of zone 3 or just a hair under zone 4. Wasn't entirely successful as I crept up to about 163-165 and for the last mile kept ratcheting down my pace a bit to keep from going higher. Good easy run though, despite the fact that I hate the treadmill.

Followed it with about a half hour of weight training.

Rode 40 miles this morning, and just finished my 10 mile run. My left knee started hurting like a SOB, so I'm going to scale back this week. I bought a new trainer, so I'll get some good time in on that and try and get at least 3 days in the pool.

FUCK!
My lower back completely seized up last night. No idea how it happened. One minute felt fine, the next I start feeling some minor aching.....a few hours later I can't even stand up. Spent the whole night laying flat on the couch on an ice pack, or in a scalding hot tub...popping ibuprofen like crazy.
Got a good nights sleep and woke up with alot of the pain gone. Well, at least I can walk. Bend over? Not so much.

This happened to me 4 years ago and it lasted a few days and was then gone completely. Thankfully I was taking this week off from running anyways.
