5k last night, 26:02. bumping it up tonight... next few weeks looks like
M - 5k recovery run T - 4.5m run W - 5m run Th - rest F - 5m run S - x-train a bit or just stretch Su - long run (this week = 8, next week = 10, week after = half marathon)
that should get me back to ready for the half on the 14th.

Nah..he has a good running base already. He'll handle that plan no problem. The recovery run on mondays are key to progression.

I'm with Mr.Mom. I think you're tired because you ran three days in a row. What was your schedule like before that?
Also, what's your stretching like after you run? When you finished your 6 miles on Sat and Sun how much time did you spend stretching?
Also, how are you doing with staying hydrated? A lot of times I find my muscles feel heavy because I've been bad about sipping water all day long.
I can definitely relate to having an off day after a few days of running hard. It's to be expected. Also, just having a shitty run without any real reason has to be expected. There have been days when I just feel "off" maybe it was a bad nights sleep? maybe it was just that my head wasn't into it.
Whatever the reason I had a shitty run is just as easy to explain as the reason why sometimes I'll run for 10 miles and finish feeling like I could do another 10.
But I am very curious about your stretching and hydrating. Those two are really critical if you're getting to a point here you're hitting >30 miles per week, and if you're at 16 by Tuesday then there's a decent chance you'll be crossing that threshold soon...

gotta make stretching (after the run) a part of your workout... there's really no getting around that. It doesn't have to be RIGHT after - you can get inside, down a full glass of water - then attack it, but you gotta do it. Especially after a 6 miler.
it's one of those things that will catch up with you in a hurry and then get to a point where it affects your running. the key is to stay ahead of it.
oh, and get a foam roller!
Try this experiment next week. It's not scientific, but it might help hammer the point home. Do your 6 miles on Sat and Sun but do 15min of good leg stretching after each run, then see if you're still running flat on Monday with your 4 miler.

there's a dude (Jeff Galloway) who was made famous for his walk/run marathon method. Begging runners usually finish faster using that method than they do straight running it.

did my 4.33 miles last night in 36:06, but did my fastest mile last (8:14).
Got my new shoes too!! But I didn't try them last night. If it's dry out tonight I might take them for a couple miles to see how they fit. They're "minimalist" shoes, so I need to get into them gradually.

They weigh 8oz vs. the 15oz my regular shoes weigh. They feel like fucking slippers too. Love 'em.

oh wow
that's something that i have noticed this year. the weight of the show can affect your run as well. it's not as simple as lacing up and heading out for a run. if the shoe is too heavy, it can impact your run times etc
I'm more interested in moving to a forefoot strike instead of a heal strike. The heel-to-toe drop on this is only 8mm whereas my Omni 9s it is around 18mm if not more. Doesn't sound like much, but if my heel is hitting the ground 10mm sooner in the Omni 9s then it will more than likely mean that the heel becomes the strike point.

yeah, I figure I'll use these shoes on 3 mile or less runs to get used to them. I don't know if I'll ever do longer distances, but I'd like to build up to a half marathon distance in them.
target cadence for efficient running is 180 steps per minute (90 per foot obv). So I figure if I am running for 1:55 that's 10,350 times I am lifting each leg. I lift 15oz 10,350 times with each leg during a half marathon, so I would imagine it would take less energy to lift 8oz 10,350 times, right?
the only concern is if there is enough cushioning in the shoe to make 13.1 miles still feel comfortable. So, that's why I'll be ramping up slowly in these. Not to mention I can't expect to switch to a forefoot strike overnight. i have some un-learning to do...

Obviously, since it only goes by total elapsed time and distance, you don't see variations in pace. But if you just want to get something loaded with miles and average pace, it can be done.

weird that the site doesnt have an end time but it does have a start time It doesn't need your end time since it has the duration. It really just creates a very minimalist log for your run.
minimalist log. that's the kinda poo you have when you're eating a reduced calorie diet.

I've never had a problem, but I mostly run where there are few obstacles (buildings, dense tree cover, etc.).
