I had a big milestone today in my couch to 5k quest.

I ran for 22 minutes straight.

My previous best was 17 minutes straight.

I was last on week 5 of the program and kind of strayed from it to build some more cardio to attempt the 20 minute straight run on the 3rd run day.

I'm 6'0 and 240lbs for reference.

I'm in San Antonio this week for work. I ran on the Riverwalk. Fucking awesome path! Clean paved paths with hardly any people and great views.

It was a relief. Finally I can run.

My goal is to work up to running 30 minutes straight then onto 4 miles in 30 minutes.

I'll look for a 5k to run after I can accomplish 30 straight.

It's been getting pretty cold here at night and in the morning, and since I've been wanting to start doing some early morning bike rides and some late evening runs, I decided to get some tights. Picked up some New Balance for $40 and went for a 6.5 mile run tonight. Wow....I love them. They keep everything nice and snug and the cold was a non-issue. Managed an 8:30 pace at a pretty mild effort so I'm happy.

tights?!

Also, it was windy cold and rainy last night so I decided to take yesterday as my rest day. Heading out at lunch for a windy and cold but not rainy run.

i might need tights soon. even though I called Mr.Mom a pansy.

wind was a factor today for sure. Along the river the headwind was so strong I saw seagulls suspended in the air just floating along.

Barely held down 3.2 today, averaging just under 10:00 each. \:\( Blech. Starting to get sick, and it showed in today's run.

I've got my second half this weekend in Memphis. Been a shitty week so far though with lots of travel, and more tomorrow. Wife is doing the full and I'm running with her for her first 12.5 miles, so she'll be setting the pace and she's targeting 4:20 for the full.

seriously. don't lose your wind dude, it'll make the spring comeback suck like a bitch.

Just maintain 2-3 runs a week. Don't go for improving your running fitness, just maintain it. You'll be glad you did in the spring.

So jealous of everyone still running these leg problems are killing me just sitting around.

I might start doing some yoga just for something to do.

Ran 25 minutes today. Pretty good considering my personal best last run was 22 minutes, the time before that 17 minutes and the time before that 15 minutes.

I could tell my cardio was stronger today from wringing myself out on Wed.

Perfect conditions running today didn't hurt either. Mid 70's and sunny with plenty of shade when I wanted it.

Memphis half marathon in the books. A bit over 2:10, which is slower than the first half I ran in September, but it means my wife is pretty much spot on for her goal of 4:20 in the full and that's all that matters. We lost a couple minutes due to a zipper malfunction on her jacket and the 12 mile water stop was at the base of a hill where she preferred to walk up before running again. I think she'll pick up a couple minutes in the second half with all the half marathoners turning off and less sideways running around people.

Despite the time, this run was better for me in a few ways compared to the Chicago half in September. In Chicago, I had a better time but we went out harder and I was hurting for the last three miles - my pace gradually tapered off. In this run, I felt just as good at mile 12 as I did at mile 2. I had a nice even pace and never really felt tired except on a couple of inclines near the end. But I recovered well after both of them. And I had gas in the tank at the end - when I turned off at the 12.5 mile mark I ran the last .6 at near an 8 minute mile pace. Granted it was down hill, but the bottom line was I felt good as opposed to struggling. I took in nutrition during this race, which I didn't do in Chicago, and that probably played a role too.

I will also add that running through the St. Jude's hospital campus with the kids out there cheering and giving high fives was probably one of the top five coolest and most heartwarming experiences of my life. I almost teared up.
