Went out to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens in Piedmont Park today. Perfect weather.

105mm, f/3.0, 1/1250... That narrow DOF would drive me bats.
I noticed you focused on the subject without feet.

Thanks. Probably about 12 feet. I was hanging out the sliding door of a minivan. You aren't supposed to get out of the car in the bison enclosure, but I've seen people do it, sometimes with children in tow, and that's fucking stupid. The bison in Yellowstone kill more tourists every year than all other animals combined. People don't realize that they're actually very quick, very agile and very aggressive when pissed off. So I leave the sliding door open, and give myself room to dive backwards if need be.
  cheers, scott

Here's yesterday's POTD.
The red blossoms just came out that way in the bokeh I guess. I don't recall doing anything crazy when developing the pic in LR3.

Thanks. Love the name of the location on your pic.
The Gardens are nice. I take back what I said about Atlanta being completely non-photogenic. There are some nice hidden spots left. Someone left this wine glass behind in the park:

Here is a 100% crop of the unusual (to me) bokeh. I don't use filters or anything on my lenses. Looks like the light reflected back inside (durr) the lens:

Is that the one off I44? I've been up to that water tower and the one on Grand off I70. I hear there's a third but never been to it .
Yep. I've been to the north grand one too, but it's dodgy as fuck to walk around there with gear. I haven't heard about a third.
  cheers, scott

Teehee - Grand Street is where our plant is (down the hill by the river).
Had to look it up but here's info on all 3: http://www.stlwater.com/watertowers.php
I just like cool old shit and those water towers in St Louis I've always loved.

Scott I like that last shot, it's cool to see the animals that close to the cars/people and not caring or seeming worried at all.

Thanks. There's a lot of interaction like that and I really need to break out of my bullshit "nature photographer" mode sometimes and get that bigger picture.

Nice.

What about hitting those sharp, textured spots along the right side of the frame with a little blur though. It seems like the eye should follow the soft, gentle spiral towards the center of the flower, but since since those spots are sharp, my attention keeps stopping there and I have to force myself to go on.
  cheers, scott
Are you asking me to use photoshop? That can only end in disaster for me and my picture.
