Damn Cheese, that's not a bad pace for that long.

Run commuted home last night. 4.8 @ 9 temps in low 90s, ugh
Run commuted in to work today 4.6(?) @ 9, temps in the mid 60s(NICE!)

Once I get my feet up to the 14 miles this week I think I'll dial the speed back in. I've been running slow for the whole month. I'm not sure I still have much speed, but at least my milage is building.

I did an 11.5k run w/ 10 seats of stairs in the middle (2000 total) yesterday. It was hot. My body was peeing and the run back after the stairs was tough.

Thinking of just doing weights today, then a morning run tomorrow. Hot week, so I'll keep anything in the evening on the bike since heat doesn't bother me much while riding.

damn dude. you should enter a 10k or a 1/2 or something, might be fun to see where you're at with all this work you put in.

Thanks. I was happy I was able to do it and might have had a little more in me. But I definitely would have been slower had I run that distance outside.

I don't even try to run outside once the temp gets over 85. I get gassed in a hurry.

I was a drippy mess when I got home yesterday, but as long as I hydrate I could have kept going. Salt is key too, as I'm a "salty" sweater.

I hate treadmill miles. Especially long runs

I really have no urge to enter a race. I know it would push me to actually max myself, but I just don't care. I like opening the door, doing a 10-12k loop, coming home and done.

Last summer I pulled a 48:XX 10k just running around the neighborhood trying to keep my pace at a certain level. I used both my Garmin and phone to confirm the time/distance. I'm sure I have a good bit more on the table, but my legs are never at 100% with biking/running/squats either.

Ditto on the treadmill hate. I've ran in 95 degree weather in Hawaii and would rather be a dripping mess than stationary in a room.

sick, thats a faster 10k than my goal pace ;\) [49:59] woo

I'm still ~ 2 mins over that. Every time I try to PR it I have some kind of reason excuse and bail out of the 8:00/mi pace in the first or 2nd mile

happened to me on last saturday too. Tried to PR a 10k and ended up doing mile repeats. It was like ~90F out and I mistakenly thought I could just power through/tough it out.

The nice part about it being super hot out (90+) and you're still able to get out and do 9 minute miles is knowing that if it was only 70 out you'd be doing 7:30 miles. At least, that's my rough guesstimate.

I've been struggling through the heat here in FL. My runs seems to go from 8:30 pace to 10:00 pace by the end of 4-7 miles. It is going to be awesome in a few months, but right now it is grueling.

3.2 miles outside with the stroller at a 9:18 pace. Didn't feel great tonight but did well enough.

Yeah hot temps obviously kill the pace. Glad there's someone else out there that can stomach the treadmill for longer than a mile.

It was 70 this morning, but 91% humidity meant I was still soaked. Also had the Costanza heat pump thing going afterwards.

Hopefully, the legs will hold up for a squat session, then a ride tomorrow and Friday's cardio is golfing/walking the course.

Good to see all you guys still going after it.

The last 3 weeks have been pretty crazy...vacation (ran quite a bit on the trails, plus MTB), then a week at scout camp where I didnt get huge mileage in (only 60) but I was at 6000-8000 feet the whole time so thats good for something. Last week was lame....only 2 runs for a whopping total of 28 miles. We've been moving into the new house, that has obviously taken priority over training. Ive been getting some serious all body workouts though, thats for sure.
Went out last night at 10 after a long day and evening and knocked out 15. Was still hot and humid, but it felt good. I leave for Leadville 2 weeks from thursday. :scared:

Update: so the chest pain I've been experiencing hasn't been healing as quickly as I'd hoped. Going to revisit with the doc to see if I have bruised or fractured ribs from last week's injury. Thinking last weekend's traithlon could have made things slightly worse.

In any case, it looks like running is on hold for another 2-3 weeks until things improve. Still painful to lie down and get up. Fingers crossed for the best.

my spidey sense calls broken rib(s)

which is great (and lame) because the 'fix' is usually 'here's some advil'

Thanks. Yeah the goal is to get an x-ray and a nod from the doc that nothing else looks wrong. I don't think I'd have been able to complete the tri on a broken rib? Thinking this was a good bruise.

so I'm still on the bike-less plan and am loving it

I know shocker right?

I am on my bike-mileage reduction-plan recently hatched by the horror of my impending 1/2 marathon and [international distance] tri upcoming the week before that [less than 2 months now :scared: ]

energy level is higher, comfort is higher, maintaining speed is easy as pie

perhaps I've just had a couple good /short jogs but I feel quicker by reducing my weekly mileage from the 50-70 range down to 20-30

normally I feel fairly beat /dead and my workouts are kind of a bitch. a couple months back I pulled my bike-commute days off of my swim days [used to do doubles] because mainly I was so burned out in the water or mostly because I was sick of the slow people being on my feet or not making my normal intervals. a little of both

anyways still trying to figure out how to push this balloon around but I'm punting from the bike commute ~4-5 days a week mode + 1 weekend ride [70-100 miles/week] down to around 20-30 and am still swimming/surfing 2-3x/week and running now 3-4x/week instead of 2-3 and adding mileage --body seems to hang on up to 15 miles/week now

to sort of contradict myself I hope to go mtbiking this weekend on a ~2-hr ride with a ton of elevation [for me], say 4k+ or so of climbs

I think you could safely say I'm still battling burnout of sorts and am figuring out where to pull workouts out. I'm around ~8 hrs /week of cardio still tho

~3 hrs in the water
~2.5 hrs jogged
~2.5 hrs biking

perhaps I will try this for a while

Diagnosis: bruised ribs and cartilage. Doc was puzzled how I managed to swim/run with the inflammation. Took X-rays as a precaution.

No swimming or running through next weekend.

EDIT: Good to see you staying busy Stickaz

Heal up, Design. Hope all is well in a couple of weeks.

8 hours a week is a solid effort, stickaz. That's still a hefty regimen. \:\)

I'd agree with gamby, don't worry about increasing past 8 if you're struggling, Hell maybe drop down 6 next week for a mini reocvery.

I'd say just sort of keep hovering at 8. I think that's one thing you've got to do as you're pushing for more, recognize you've made huge progress. Don't try to push through just to do it, but don't go back to couch potato either.

Just rounded 14 miles this week with a quick 5km. Felt the heat and all, but still not too bad. Feet seem happy at 10-14 range. Though the 2 5milers within 16 hours was a bit hard.
Ended up with about 3x commutes so 30miles/2.5 hours on bike so far.

Shooting for 3 hours on bike on Sunday, hopefully before the heat.

I missed the weights this week, so that sucks.

Just did 8.5 miles outside. The temp wasn't that high - low 70s. But it still wasn't pretty. The last couple of miles were rough. Overall pace was about 9:45. Would have liked to have seen that under 9:30. I knew that treadmill run of last week was not predictive of what I would do on the road but it felt good to say I did it

Need to suck it up and lose 10 pounds quickly. That will help.

Doing a series of three trail runs and the second was last night. First one was on pavement due to rain and finished 19th overall and 7th in my group. Last night finished a few seconds over 58 minutes. 14th overall 4th in my group. Not a fast crowd but I am happy with my results.

I capped off this big block of training for the Lesdville100 with a 72 mile week. That makes just over 1600 for the year so far. Feeling very ready and can't wait to go find out how tough I really am.

Baby steps. I still take 2 short walk breaks in my neighborhood 5k loop. That's down from 5 or so when I first started. \:\)

Ran on Saturday and Sunday. Back on the bike today.
