Decided to surprise the wife and join her in the OC Half Marathon tomorrow. I don't think I'll go for a PR... Just something under 2 hrs would be fine.

Despite very little distance training I knocked out the OC Half in 1:49:16. That's going to be a PR for me.

Lol.
Thanks man. Yeah I generally go out around 8/mi, slow to 8:30, then bust out the last few at sub-8. Seems to work well for me.

Had to bail on the MS Society 5k because the anal geysers from Saturday night were still lingering this morning. Really disappointed I couldn't make it.
Sucks, because I did a decent 32 mile road ride earlier in the day and felt really strong. All hell broke loose around 10PM.

Awesome job man!
What's up with that 85th km? 34 minutes! Did you lay down and cry? Because that elevation profile looks like hell!
But, really, you kicked that things ass!

yea that 5:00 1k split near the end had me going lol great job btw. also did you post somewhere that this was harder than leadville? was wondering why? remember to please consider altitude in your answer [which terrifies me more than anything]
Yeah, even after 2 days to think about it, I stand by that statement. This was the physically difficult parts of Leadville crammed into 62 miles instead of a hundred. Leadville (to me) only has 3 tough sections: the two ascents of Hope Pass and the climb up Powerline at mile 76 or so. Other than that the terrain is very mild and I never had an issue with the altitude other than moving a little slower than I might have. This course had something really tough around every corner. 9 of the 13k feet of vert came in the first 50k. Several long descents that beat the legs up too. Lots of short but really steep climbs late in the race. Throw in a little bit of heat and exposure and yeah...it was pretty tough.
I treated Leadville as a really long outdoor adventure...never really a race. While I didn't "race" this one, I had goals in my head that I really wanted to hit, so there wasn't a whole lot of slacking off.

Great job Stickaz and Ironmom. Solid results.
I ended up running the Laguna Memorial Day 10K yesterday. Not sure how much faster I will get, given the increased activity with family and friends. But I was pretty happy with my time (6.2 @ 46:57).
I am going to be reading ampsman's article when I get a chance; I signed up for the Spartan Beast 15 mile obstacle course in September. I am a glutton for punishment.

At the rate you're running your 5K, you'll have no problem.
Tempo runs FTW.

hoping to hit it at the end of june in my next oly tri on the run leg. last month I went 51:20 /soclose /notreally heh
I had a bit of a mental fade/pacing problem. Hopefully I can fix that this time. It will be hotter tho, and not flat either [~300' of elevation on the 10k/uff] vs flat.
thinking I wont go under 50:00 hehe
