wewt 10 days to go 'till the SF half marathon and it looks like I'm sitting ~at goal weight for my half. Second week in a row I've weighed in at/about 190 [191 last night post-dinner]

this should put me around ~188# in the morning I guess /not sure, and also around 7-8# lighter than the last time [and only time] I raced this distance..

Nice...hitting a race goal weight always gave me a serious mental boost. Now you just gotta visualize yourself floating up those hills. \:D

Personally I'm having a real tough time recovering from this flu. Feel great starting a run, then a mile in and I feel like shit. Really hoping I can get some energy back soon. 4 weeks till Boston and I was really hoping to work on some speed.

Lookin' good stickaz, if you're really bored there's a calculator on fellrnr's site that'll tell you what a lighter body weight roughly works out to pace-wise: http://fellrnr.com/wiki/Running_Calculator

ironmom: that sucks, I hate the ones that linger forever like that. hopefully it'll clear up soon, maybe see a doc if it's still around after a few more days?

I'm working my way through the first week of marathon training (Pfitzinger's 18/55 plan). So far so good, I think I was in the perfect place to transition right into this plan from my previous training.
On a side note: I hit 100 days in my streak with this morning's run, averages out to ~6.7 miles/day.
The plan I'm on recommends taking a full day off per week, I'm debating between doing that and just keeping a super easy 5k or something to keep the streak going a bit longer...

The cliff notes of that weight/graded table is it's about :30s per pound dropped over a half. Not bad

Looks like Pearl Izumi running shoes are 50% off on Amazon today only: http://slickdeals.net/f/7744209-pearl-izumi-running-shoes-up-to-52-off-on-amazon-com?v=1

I've never tried their running shoes, debating picking up a pair at this price though.

Today I did ~3 hours and 4,000' in the sloppiest, snow cone-iest snow conditions out there. Not until the shade over 8,000' did it firm up but the hill I was running is ~1,500' from 6,750' to 8,250' so most of it was in the slop.

That said I kicked things off with a bang by heading straight up underneath the poma lift on Howelsen Hill since it just closed for the season.

478' of climb at an average of 40% grade but a few sections were quite a bit steeper. I was kicking my spikes into the softest snow I could find and still using my hands. Thought I was gonna have a heart attack lol so out of shape \:\(

I have had about 8 pairs and I love them. Currently doing road miles in the N1's and trail in the N2's.

I get to order the new N3's next week and can't wait.

I don't think he was being sarcastic lol. Nice job man.

By contrast, Summer has officially started here in So Cal. Participated in the Grape Stomp Triathlon with friends this past Sunday. I opted for the swim portion of the relay while some of my more novice friends did the run/bike portion. Brought the kids along in the hopes they might want to get involved (which they do). All in all another fun but busy weekend. \:D

BTW - I generally refrain from sharing my photos here and keep it limited to FB. Shoot me a PM if you want to creep my page. \:\)

update: had a few beers and a pizza to myself \:o

my final long run [10.0] felt super easy at long-slow pace, optimistic my half this sunday isn't a huge disaster [still kinda sick but feeling ok-ish, in swim practice last night my speed was down a little]. at least I'll be at/around my goal-weight. That seemed overly optimistic back in early jan \:D

Bought some new shoes (Saucony Guides) and the next-day ankle aches are still way too pronounced. I thought that pain was from the old worn-out shoes.

Are you doing an eval before picking up your shoes? If not, shoot over to an Asics or similar running shop. The former has VERY good diagnostics for both foot shape and running form.

I'm not familiar with those shoes, but I'm assuming by the name that they are motion control? Have you always ran in them?

I don't want to sound like a broken record....but you should look into Hokas.

I went to a proper running store where the dude looked at my stride and offered up the shoes that would be appropriate.

Old ones were Guide 6 (which where excellent), new ones are Guide 8, most recent version of the previous ones.

They are motion control--raised heel, etc... My stride is a really strange combination of motions, apparently. Had great luck with the old ones until they wore out. Not sure what's up with the new ones.

Stay tuned for more specifics...

Trying to put in some solid work this week. Speed is kinda sorta coming back but I'm thinking it might be too little too late for Boston. May just run it with my brother (we're both in the same corral) and shoot for under 3:30.

Get with a running group. I'm mulling over Snails Pace or Cal Coast Track here in So Cal.

Went back to running store and exchanged for some Saucony Ride 7's. More cushion, less correction. Dude there was super helpful. \:\)

Strava file coming later but I did the SF half today with at least 800' vert in 2:00:40, fuck you

That last hill I did not expect on mile 12 (ok srsly, pizza?) blew me off the razor edge pace I was holding

*still a PR doe, I'll take it

My only other half was 6 months ago in San Jose, 2:05:35 I think with like 80' of elevation lol
