Oops. I take that back. Its not the RnR. I knew that but had a brain fart. The RnR was earlier this month.

Longest run to date today - 9 miles. Pace was not terrible at 9:36/mile. The last mile and a half were tough - the last couple of hills I didn't feel like I was recovering as I crested them and came down the other side, so I walked for a bit to get my heart rate back down.

5.08 miles last night - did it in 44:31, so I averaged 8:45/mile. I think that's the fastest 5 miles I've ever run!

lol, I think it's safe to say I'm a much better swimmer than runner.

Although, I'm happy to say that I'm well under 9 minute miles for all of my longer runs now, and have even dipped under 8 for my 5k's.

I love BodyGlide too.....I use it on my armpits where my wetsuit tends to chafe, as well as inside my shoes that tend to chafe on long runs.
Just picked up another stick of it as well....but the new version with sunscreen built in.

Should be interesting seeing how much the new bike helps you too!

Yeah...I'm looking forward to that! I average 19mph on my normal route that's anywhere from 20-50 miles....but that's with a normal 20+ mph headwind the whole way back. I was able to stay aero 99% of the time on the old bike, but I'm hoping to see a bit of improvement with the more aggressive position.

Had a fantastic run tonight...one of those that just felt easy and like everything was right in the world. Even better was the fact that I did 9 miles at a 8:58 pace....and it wasn't a struggle at all.

Nice...it's always awesome to find out you were running faster than you thought.

I'm tired as hell this morning. Did a 1 mile open water swim, followed immediately with a 7 mile run. Didn't plan on going that far, but it felt pretty damn good.

Did the swim in 28 minutes, and averaged a 9:10 pace on the run.

slowpoke that is awesome. and I must say you're getting into longer distances at just the right time. I find that running in cooler weather makes the runs way more enjoyable, so extend your distance as we pull through Fall. you'll be calling yourself a runner in no time. keep it up.

8 mile run today. 9:20ish pace. Perfect weather today made it seem easy.

First half-marathon next week.

I second the Hal Higdon rec - I'm using a modified plan of his for my upcoming half.

Did todays 10 miler in 1:32 (9:04/m pace). On the run I saw 18 turkeys (first a group of three, then a second group of 15 all over the road). Also rescued a puppy that ran out after me into the street - there was an oncoming car that I had to stop before scrappy mcpuppy bolted toward me. It was interesting.

Great run though - same route as last week, but last week I stopped once for water/Gu at mile 5 and then stopped a ton thereafter - maybe 6 times in all. Today I didn't stop except for the puppy rescue and I skipped the Gu, just sipped water the whole way out of my hand bottle.

Half is on October 3rd, so I am feeling very ready for it. I'd like to get my time down though, so I gotta figure out how to go out at an even pace and turn it on for the second half. My pace splits this run were:

8:42
8:30
9:02
9:00
9:01
9:16
9:28 *puppy rescue
9:24
9:23
8:59
1:32 *only .18 miles

I did an Oktoberfest 5k this morning. It was a little rough at right around 20:10, I have to learn not to shoot out so hard on the first mile. By the 3rd I was getting a little winded.

I used to do Fartlek training and track workouts earlier in year which dropped my time down quite a bit. Now I'm pretty much just focusing on longer runs and brick workouts now.

Had a pretty good training day. Did a 26 mile ride on the new bike this morning (19mph average with a pretty strong headwind) then this afternoon did a 6.5 mile run at a 8:45 pace. This was pretty surprising since I'd eaten way too much at lunch 3 hours before and I felt pretty awful for most of it.

I'm really glad school starts this week for the kids. Now I can go back to doing my runs mid day with the baby in the jogger. That frees up my evenings for swimming or a quick bike ride. My training base is great, but I want to ramp it up in the next 2 weeks before I taper for a week before my race on the 26th.

5 mile run this morning. Pace was 8:51/mile which was pretty good for me, although I cheated and stopped the timer twice while the dog took a dump and I cleaned it up - so I had a couple of breathers in there.

Also did a medium intensity 25 mile bike ride on Sunday on the road bike. Gotta get back in riding shape for my first cyclocross season.

First half marathon in the books! Ran the Chicago half this past Sunday. Not posting my official time as I don't want any of the resident creepers looking me up, but I finished between 2:00 and 2:10.

Ran it with my wife and really would have liked to have gotten under 2:00, but wasn't entirely expecting to. Mostly flat course and weather was perfect, but with approx. 20,000 other people there was more sideways running for the first few miles than was helpful At the 9 mile mark it seemed like 2:00 was within reach, but I was slowing down and when we hit the 10 mile mark it was going to take a personal best 5k to hit that goal. In the end, that last three miles really sucked ass but I finished without walking.

Signed up for another one in December and can hopefully shave some time off by then.

9 weeks of couch to 5k training was totally worth it.

I did my first race today, 4 mile mud / obstacle course. It was pretty bad ass. I fucking busted my ass 3 different times in the mud, the mud was soo thick that my shoe would get buried and i'd bite it. Thank god for all the lunges, squat jumps and everything else i do in the gym. I rolled my ankles several times and though they are a little sore, nothing is broken / no sprain.

Anywho, my average pace is about 10 minutes a mile, i did the 4k in 44 minutes... there was alot of ponds to wade through and i had to stop and tie my shoes several times, if it wasnt for that i might have done a little better.

Before!

Final Mud Pit

10 ft from the finish line

I might have a few more pics later once the photogs start uploading their pics.

If you asked me i could have done this 1 year ago, at 340lbs i probably would of kicked you in the taint! I'm so fucking happy that i decided to turn my life around! Thanks to all of you for the support and motivation!
