I like the idea behind Crossfit, but I just think it might be too hard on the joints. I have tried it a few times, but putting that sort of load on your joints (explosive, dynamic movements) can lead to hell in the future. Not if you're doing it correctly. Olympic lifts are natural, compound movements that are good for your joints. Compound movements are way better for your joints than isolation. And in fact there are countless anecdotal accounts of old injuries that go away on their own doing after doing CrossFit for awhile. Hell my neck has bothered me since I was a kid and it definitely isn't as bad anymore as it used to be. I'm sure crossfit is good for some people but I for one can't stand it. I don't mind doing the shit if there was brakes in between...but the fact there is no brakes is the foundation of crossfit. lolHa, that's the point. The whole point of not having breaks is to improve your fitness level. Different strokes for different folks.
 Couldn't have said it better

At my gym today we're going to do the last workout of the games for our WOD:
 15 barbells cleans (135lb.)
 30 toes to bar
 30 box jumps (24 inches)
 15 muscle-ups
 30 push presses (40)
 30 double-unders
 15 thrusters (135)
 30 pull-ups
 30 burpees
 Overhead walking lunges (45)

Should be interesting. I'll have to do jumping muscle ups and regular jump rope though, as I can't do double unders.

That WOD looks insane, good job on the MU! The ceiling at the gym we're just moving out of wasn't high enough to allow for muscle ups, but We (the affiliate I go to) moved from a 3,000 sq ft gym to a 10k sq ft gym this weekend, starting Monday in the new place will be nice! The ceilings are about 30ft so there won't be any problems with hanging rings for MU's now.
Apparently they're going to have a Brazilian Ju Jitsu gym in one of the other areas of the new place.

I can't speak for everyone in the CrossFit world, but my experience has been that it's a pretty friendly community, people are helpful and all that. Of course there is always some bag of douche somewhere right?

I haven't run into any bad eggs yet. Everyone is always so enthusiastic about it. It's infectious and it keeps you motivated.

buddy of mine can hit 30's not cheating, though he is training for seals, which puts him in crazy/another world of athleticismSpealler is not human, that boy is just nuts. Max pull ups I can do in a row is 35, I'd love to hit 50. Straight down with arms locked out each time and no kipping/kicking/cycling movements with your legs when pulling up? The only person I know of that could do 35 or so was a 5'5" dude in boot camp that weighed like 135lbs. |

If you want to do it bad enough, you'll figure out a way. Maybe just shell out for some bumper plates, a pull up bar and a box in your garage until you can afford going to the gym?

That sucks man, as long as you keep working out it's all good. You know the movements so you got that at least. We did the filthy 50 today, my first time doing it, damn it sucks. I can't remember the exact order of things, but it's close enough.
 50 reps of each:

 1. wall ball 20lb
 2. push ups
 3. air squats
 4. box jumps 24" box
 5. box dips
 6. sit ups
 7. kettle bell swings 53lbs
 8. sumo deadlift high pulls 53lbs
 9. kettle bell twists 35 lbs
 10. burpees

 for a time of 33:27

 'filthy free day'

 25 wall balls (i used 10#)
 25 pushups
25 double unders or sub. 75 jump rope
 25 pullups (i did 15 strict + 10 jumping)
25 walking lunges (i did 30, thought it was 25 per leg)
 25 burpees
 25 air squats

We did a little Fight gone bad practice today, my gym is hosting it this year. It wasn't nearly as hard as the actual, but damn it was rough. Especially warming up with 5 sets of 3 dead lifts.
Also had a skill session this weekend where we worked on our snatches, followed by a nice team WOD.

 10 ea. Clean and Press
 20 ea. Sit ups
 30 ea. Wall Balls
 Run to old Compound (800M)
 25 ea. Pull ups
Run Back to new Box (800M)
 25 ea. Box Jump Burpees

 For Time
Only one person can do work at a time, you must finish all the reps before you can move to the next. On the Run you must start together, but while running you can leave your team and get to the next stage and start.

Took my team 33 minutes, we had two rookies on our team of 4, one of which went all pukie after the WOD, poor kid was prob. about 17 or 18, they did good though, it was rough.

Wow, and you did it prescribed? That's damned impressive. I had to do the hang power cleans and push jerk with 135 because I simply couldnt hang onto the bar at 155.
DT is very trying mentally too. I felt wrecked for a couple days after.

I did Tabata Something Else today and killed it. Got 363 reps compared to 307 last time.

tried "Cindy" today
20 min, as many rounds of: 5 pullups, 10 pushups, 15 squats

I did the pullups strict, and they forced some lengthy breaks after ~10 rounds so i could recover and still put together a set of 5. with some more work on pullups i should be able to get >20 rounds

 result: 17 rounds

Yeah Rx'd. It sucked. Dude in my class did it in 13 min. I was pretty surprised at myself for being able to do it, not to toot my own horn.
One of the coaches comes up with sadistic random WODs that we do once a month or so on Sat. mornings. So a bunch of people got together and we did this...

 WOD for Fire Farters 1000
 "C-Notes"
 100 Double Unders (500 Single)
I can't do DU, bastards took forever! 100 Push Press 75m/55w
 100 SDHP 35m/25w
 100 Box Jumps 20"
 100 jumping Pull ups
 1 Mile Run

 For Time

 37:02

There was a 45 min cut off.

 I fucking love this shit

As far as doing strict pull ups, that's good shit that you can do them. You will be happy once you get the kipping pull ups down though.

I personally find it to be very boring. It's one of the few workouts I will actually skip.

tips on strategy for Angie? the 100 pull-ups. obviously, breaks are going to be needed. do you get a better time if you go to exhaustion on each set of pullups, and take a longer break, or just do a few pull-ups at a time and more shorter breaks?

I broke them up to sets of 20, and when I got tired I would do sets of 10 as quick as possible. I wouldn't go until exhaustion personally, it's always too hard to get back on the bar.
