Well, after you all know, after taking 4 days off, I turned around and ran my best 1.64 mile time, in a total of 16:43 and shaving off 1:03 in the process. I thought to ease back into things and do the best for my legs so since then Ive taken two night off, and Ill be back at it tomorrow. Can't wait!

the higher the better, but dont pass out. thats why many recommend running whith speed intervals hard out for like two mintues then walk for one and so on

I took that 16:43 and said SHOVE IT! I ran the 1.64 mile loop in an awesome (for me) 15:30. I know Ive been seeing 1:00+ time improvements, but that is going to be slowing down now after this time. Ill still be able to improve, but not nearly as fast. I didn't walk near as much and I even threw in a ~40 yd uphill sprint. Im SO pumped!

i think one day i will pick an evening after work and strictly run outside. i can last 20 minutes on a threadmill but after that, i just want to stop and leave.

i wonder if i run outside on the street would give me less distraction after 20+ minutes?

Im sure it will. I despise doing stationary cardio work. It just gets so boring to me but I have no problem running/cycling/walking outside for any length of time.

Ran 1.6 miles last night in a hair of 19:00. I kept feeling like I was going to poo all over myself so Id have to stop and squeeze the cheeks together. Pair that with my hamstring being a bit sore from softball where I reaggravated an existing injury and I was able to run as well. \:\( Overall though my shin pain is just about completely gone!

Good work man! Keep it up and youll see that time slide real fast for your first bit. It does plateau after awhile obviously. \:\)

Hit 2 miles on the treadmill at a relaxed pace (~10 mile miles). First time I've done any sort of cardio in months...been slacking off badly in that dept lately.

For a beginner, a 10:00 pace isn't bad at all. That's what Im hovering around right now myself.

Well, not really a beginner per se. I've played sports since I was a wee one (soccer) so I've built up a bit of endurance and seem to keep some of it even if I don't run regularly.

BTW, knocked out 3 miles today at the same pace.

Ah, good point.

I ran my 1.65 mile loop tonight in 17:03. A bit slower but as soon as I started my calfs began to cramp and it was soooo humid out so it made breathing a bit more labor intensive. I was really disappointed with the time but Im not going to let it get me down. Just have to go out and do better next time. \:\) Also, Ive lost ~6 lbs in 3 weeks so Im excited about that!

3 miles is a hefty run for someone starting back up imo. Get some ice and ibuprofen and youll be good to go.

Yesterday during Muay Thai we played a lil soccer game with a old school medocine ball. then the normal class followed by BJJ, I was tired as shit yesterday. I'd like to get some good biking or some other cardio in on Saturday.

Just ran for the second time in 3 days. 1 mile at a high school track on the first day and 9 laps around the perimeter of a baseball field today which I'm guessing is close to 2 miles. And 6 sprints, fuck am I slow! 180lbs.

160 by Christmas or I wil call Euphoric my daddy!

and Matt keep up the good work! I was 187 3 weeks ago and have dropped 6 too.) perhaps we can have a little competition?

Raced this weekend, "night" (7pm) race in 95 degree heat.

http://www.strictlyrunning.com/results/08Hot.txt
http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/6436317

BLITZED my old PR - time was 20:44. My splits were 6:15 (!!!), 6:38 (!!), and 6:52 (boo). I think that on a cooler day I could have done 3 of the 6:15... looking forward to the fall! My stretch goal is to drop under 20 minutes by the end of the year, which would make me a very fast casual runner or a very slow serious runner.

I can VIVIDLY remember running 30 minutes in a 5k (not a race, but at race effort). That was about a year ago, FWIW...

All my runs are exactly 18 min in length. I do this because thats 3 rounds plus the minute rest for me. My farthest is 2.89 miles. I will be breaking 3 miles in under 18 min before the end of august. After this I lift and then I do 3 5 min rounds of plios. Legs, core, upper I mix up the order. This is my light day too.

I weighed about 180 then and about 150 now. I'm still the heaviest guy running my kind of times in races - the guys that are finishing around me are all super lean six pack types. Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing

I've been a little lucky. With my frame I never would have guessed I could be a quick runner but I think I'll be in the 19 minute range - and definitely under 20 - before it's all said and done.

right now I'm just using my training days as cardio, but since I hurt my groin and hip, I'm going to have to cut down on some stuff til it's better

Mild pulled hammy. Just need stretches and anti-inflammatory so Im good to go. Did 1.64 last night in 16:24. Not my fastest (now I have NO idea where I pulled that 15:30 out of).

Good god man...under 20mins is GREAT times for any 5k run.
I've crosstraining and kickboxing over 15years now. And I can say my best time is right between 20-22mins. anything under 18mins is just awesome imo.

Awesome 5k time man. How long have you been running? Going under 20 would be a great accomplishment.

I started training a little more than a month ago for a 5k coming up at the end of the month. While training the fastest 5k I've ran is 23.10, I hope to take it under 22 for the race.
