so you know somethings not right with your car and you still push it to 7000 rpm, instead of resetting the CEL why don't you just get it checked, everytime you unbolt the battery you lose the CEL so if its not lit up anymore you lost the fault code. have you checked the basic things such as the oil? vtec runs off oil pressure, make sure the oil is clean, check the oil pressure sending unit for leaks. also when the CEL is on vtec won't engage, your car sorta goes into limp mode, so revving the piss outta your engine won't help matters. take it to a trustworthy shop to diagnose your problems.

gunk in the oil,if you are near nashville i can take a look at it for ya.send me a pm of somthing ive taken mine apart so i could give you some ideas on how to fix it.
