So I've started doing this but my question is; should I eat something before working out? I don't really want to have to wait before I can exercise due to time constraints. I usually just drink some water, go to town with the work out, then have breakfast or whatever. Is this ok?

I slam 4 egg whites and 2 cups of black coffee about an 1hr - 1 and a half hrs before I lift in the mornings. Then it's a protein shake with milk right after, followed up by some steel cut oats.

I take in 40grams whey and eat a banana on my way to gym. I take with me a mixture of 40grams whey/50 grams simple carbs(powdered gatorade) to pound the second I'm done at the gym. When I get home I eat a massive breakfast. I don't seem to have any lack of energy with this routine and definitely prefer this to working out in the evening.
I think once you start to get older you lose energy as the day goes on. I'm becoming my grandparents where you get up at the ass crack of dawn and then fall asleep in the recliner by the time the evening news comes on HAHA.
I workout in the morning too. I usually workout, then hit the smoothie king next door for a Gladiator protein shake. If I eat a sizeable meal before hitting it hard, it makes me naseated.
