lol, I know. I kind of ran out of road, and if I'd ran straight to my doorstep, I would have only hit 12.8 or so. I figured I'd be better off with a good cool-down walk, so I stopped a mile short of the 1/2 mary distance. Plus it made it easy to figure out what my time would have been for 13.1. \:D

Ran 5 miles on Saturday and 3 miles yesterday. Took today off.

Traveling to DC tomorrow if the weather cooperates. With two days there would like to try and get one run in there and maybe run past some sites. We will see.

Damn bro, you dont look like it (no offense at all), but you're a pretty good runner.

Watch out for us chubbers, we will sneak up on you (and then steal your sammich!) I'm a 20:xx 5k runner - fast enough that I'm too worn out to suck in my stomach when I see the photographer:

Nice! Will not post my January total, but as long as I stay injury free I am very confident for qualifying for Boston this year. Over 70 miles last week, with one run outside when it got up to 30 degrees last Friday! Basement treadmill and the .4 mile indoor track on base FML!

Did 4 miles @ 8:45 pace yesterday. Wasnt too bad actually because I didnt feel like death at the end. Probably coulda went another mile or two.

EDIT: Did 3.5 miles on the treadmill tonight as easy 9:15 pace.

Ill be doing this in march.. http://losangeles.angels.mlb.com/ana/community/5k_funrun.jsp

Any tips on how to start with the "real runners" in a 5k? Do you just show up real early? Last year when I did the 5k run for the All-Star game, I had to battle through about 10k people because I could finally open up my stride and get to running.

Last year there were so many people that the "fast" runners were already returning while we were waiting to start lol

start at the back

trust me. starting at the front isnt a good idea unless you are a fast runner who can break away from the pack and maintain that pace for 2/3rds of the run

Thanks! School was canceled and I was home from work so the wife and I just took turns on the treadmill. Supposedly it is getting up to 35 tomorrow, so I can run outside on the ice!

I swear after this marathon I am going to concentrate on swimming/biking for a month or two before a fall marathon.

At race day, what pace are you going to be looking for? Something like 8 minutes or a little better? Definitely start near the front. Most people at a race this big spent more time setting up their ipod playlist for the race than training and you don't want to get stuck behind 'em.

Just head over to the line a little early, be confident, and stay up near the front - if you're there 20 minutes before the gun it's not going to be a mosh pit or anything. I personally wouldn't be *on* the line because there are 15 minute runners there who can use the space, but I'd be right behind those guys. You'll pass some people and some people will pass you, just run straight and be aware of your space so you don't cut anyone off or get cut off.

Oh, and LEARN WHAT YOUR PACE FEELS LIKE! If you're starting near the front you might end up running a 6:00 pace for your first half mile and then you're fucked. I cheat with my gps watch thingy but either way, run your own race and don't start off too fast. Most people do and if you do it right you'll be reeling them in later.

Great advice! I learned the same thing with the swim portion of my first triathlons. All the guys with big egos that wanted to toe the line so I hung near the back. Gun goes off and I have to swim over s bunch of guys dog paddling. Now I always get right in the front. I'd rather be in the mix with faster guys than having to swim over slower ones.

Easy 6 miles today at an 8:11 pace. 21 miles for the week already....not including the 10 miler I plan on doing this weekend. Next week will be a taper for the 100/13.1 next weekend.

Raced 10 miles in the cold (39 F) and heavy rain this weekend.

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/66968631

I actually am not happy with my time and my pace was slower than my pace in my last 13.1. I think it was either

a) The field was very thin, and I was running by myself most of the time, so I might not have been pushing as hard as I could, or
b) I've been lifting a lot more lately and my upper body was sore during the race. Maybe either the soreness, or just the energy my body is putting into recovery, slowed me down.

It had a stadium/track finish which was kind of cool. In any case, it was a terrible fucking way to spend a Saturday morning, but my girl ran too and took second in age, and we came home and got intoxicated on mimosas by 11am.

A little behind on posting. Easy 4.5 mile run today. A couple of other runs in since my last post including a 3.5 mile tempo run. Did an hour and fifteen minutes yesterday on the bike (first hour on the trainer and fifteen minutes on the rollers).

Got 7x400 speed work tomorrow.

I think I'm going to sign up for a 5k on 2/26. Its right here in the neighborhood so I know the streets - have run them lots of times. As long as its not stupid cold or snowing I think I'll do it. Then there is the 5 mile run on St. Patrick's Day.

Nice job guys!

Today was my first completely "off" day off. I ran 34 miles last week.

My big weekend is coming up in 4 days, so I'm tapering this week. The plan is for 1 or 2 easy 4 milers, an evening in the pool, and maybe two 45 minute sessions on the trainer. The century starts at 7am on saturday. Hoping to do that in less than 6 hours...but it depends on the crowds, stops etc. It's a ride, not a race, so we'll see.
The half mary is at 7am on sunday, and my goal is 1:50. That goal could change depending on how I feel after the bike ride. I don't plan to take longer than 2 hours either way.

You fucker, you've had a Garmin watch but you weren't using Connect?

It's a nice site. Small tip, they just switched to Bing maps, if you use Chrome you can get the Google maps back by using the GFix extension. It's a one click install and it works seamlessly.

i finally decided to give cardio a chance, seems that diet alone isn't getting rid of the fat i want to lose

started on Friday of last week on my lunch break of an hour

so i walk an hour a day
Friday - 3.46 miles @ 3.5MPH
Monday - 3.63 miles @ 3.7MPH
Tuesday (today)- 3.81 miles @ 3.8MPH

these results are from the nike app on my iphone

i always had a problem where my shins were killing me after a mile, so i'm starting out slow, and upping the speed a drop everyday

I'm not going to set any land speed records, but this run last year was my first organized run. I'd been running for a few months and just wanted to finish in under 50 minutes. Made that by about ten seconds.

I'm hoping to break 42 minutes this year. I've never run that pace for five miles before, but hoping that the motivation of a timed event and some luck with good weather will get me there.

So yeah, new distance record for me.

I actually did a 10k on lunch! 6.3 miles, just over an hour (1:06?). Would have made it in just about exactly an hour had I not thrown Powerline Trail (that bigass hill i showed you guys last time) into the mix!

We'll see how the ITBS feels in the morning, but right now, i'm happy as hell.

3 miles surprised the hell out of me in November. 6 now? Surprised everyone else.

7x400 speed work yesterday - 7 rounds of 400 meters at about a 7:20 pace with 400 meters in between in the 9:30 to 10:00 range. About 4.5 miles total with warm up and cool down.

Just gonna hit the bike today.
