3.42 miles today in 34:09. I actually suppose that was my longest outdoor run. I know I did 4.1 miles on the indoor track at school but blech, inside sucks. Anywho, the run was alright and I know I can do it in ~29 minutes and change if I push it a lot but it's cold and windy and I just wanted some semblance of a run/workout. I don't even feel tired at all though now, which just means I didn't go hard enough. \:\( I might go back for an evening run of the same loop.

2.4 miles today in 28:xx. I was running with my dog and he is NOT a good running partner at all, He has to stop at every. single. mailbox. Anywho, there's a local 5k tomorrow but Im not sure if Im going to run in it or not. Im hurtin for money a bit (read: a lot) and it's 25.00 which I dont have. Ive also ran nearly 7 miles the past two days and am due for a day off, so we'll see. Flaco, whatcha think? Yay or nay?

Raced an 8k (almost exactly 5 miles) this morning in 35:26. I was actually still a little drunk and couldn't manage to get hydrated before the race so I had low expectations but I'm real happy with that time.

Looking to 5k in under 20 minutes in 2008, against a current best of 20:44 on a hot night. *Might* be doable if I train hard and get a good night's sleep the night before.

Ah, you should be able to get that. Great work on the 8k though, that's impressive! My 3-month goal would be to 5k in sub 25:00.

That should be doable - miles, miles, miles! Try to get into a routine and make time for it. I guess that's easier said than done with weather and whatever else.

Side note, these winter races are great for me in at least one aspect: before the race, it's nothing but fit, short girls, with big legs, in tight pants. It's basically my vision of heaven.

Just got back into running about a month ago, here are my new PRs:
3.2 miles @ 23:35
4.8 miles @ 40:34

I'm going to pick up some new shoes shortly, hopefully that will help me beat these times. (My brooks are about shot)

Matt, if money is a concern then forget the race and run it on your own. Make it a personal one. Today I was up by 6:30 am on a Saturday to get ready for a 5k. I'll let you guys know how it went. Wish me luck!

Good job on the 3.4 Matt.

I finished the 5k in 23:15. I wanted to finish in 21:5x, but I felt sluggish. It probably didn't help that I didn't prepare for it, drank heavily on Thursday, and ate a prime cheeseburger for dinner the night before. lol

caught 9 innings, then DWalk, and DeeDubless played football with some friends for a few hours. I wish I didn't play the baseball game. I was cramping in the last third of our game.

Sub 20 is just a mindset and a lot of practice away. We both share that goal btw, I'd be the happiest dude on earth if I could break 20 mins in the 5k.

It's certainly an impressive feat, that's for sure. I can't even run a 1 mile pace quick enough for what Id need to do for a 5k. \:\( *laces up shoes* Cya!

Ripped my 4.8 mile course in 38:42, which is much faster than it felt. My legs were sucking today. How's everyone else doing?

Well, today wasn't the day - not surprising, I've only run about 3 times in the past couple of weeks. Chip time was 20:53 for a 5k:

20:53 is pretty quick for a 5k, i know that's not goal, but still quick. I'm hoping some new shoes will inspire me to drop some time.

Alright, I'm going to see if I can't join you guys with the running.

I don't run right now other than the occasional intervals - I have some low back issues that are aggravated when I run. But over the weekend, we went to Memphis where my wife ran the half marathon while I sat in the hotel room, and I felt like a giant pussy about the whole thing. Now, honestly, I have no desire to ever run a half marathon or a full marathon. I'm a cyclist and during the summer would rather put those kind of hours in on my road bike. But I would like to get in decent enough running shape to put down a respectable 5k time, so that's the goal.

We have a marathon and half-marathon locally in April. My wife will probably run the half, I want to do the 5k. I should have plenty of time to get in shape for it by then.

Anyone else have low back issues? I've got two bulging disks that are asymptomatic most of the time. I'm not sure if its those or its something else, but I typically can't jog too far before I have to stop. My plan is to do a "couch to 5k" training plan that starts out with intervals. I'll stick to running on a track to start to avoid hills - running uphill doesn't agree with me yet. Work on strengthening my core and dropping some weight to reduce stress on my low back any way that I can. Any other thoughts?

Just take it slow and don't push yourself too hard. If your back begins to hurt, then stop. Adding another mile to a run isn't worth really messing up your body.

In other news, Asics delayed shipping my shoes so I wont have them till I get home Sunday. \:\( Ugh.
