I didn't do a whole lot of running in November/December, however I recieved some legit cold weather running gear for xmas, synthetic thermal undies and a windbreaker jacket and pants along with a headband and gloves. Stylin' and profilin'! I ran about a mile a week ago but it was just too cold ~10-15 degrees. This week I've put in two 3.7 mile runs in 30 degree temps and its been good. I'm not as out of shape as I thought I'd be.

Good work man! The right gear makes all the difference in the world.

2.25 miles in 20:53

It was 27* out and I was just wearing running shorts on my legs. My legs got SO cold. I was wearing a thin under armour, long sleeve T, and a running jacket, so my upper body was warm, but ugh. It was a great run and I didnt feel winded one bit, but I just had no feeling in my legs. Brr.

I would have been fine had I had my tights. They're freakin cozy warm but running shorts just weren't cutting it. lol

I only use the treadmill at home on rainy days. I fucking HATE running on the treadmill now, time goes by soooo slllloooowwwwwww, almost feels like you're in class staring at the clock.

oh yea, I ordered the polar fs3 watch/heart rate monitor off amazon. Will make a good thread for it once I get it and try it a few times. I never monitored my heart rate or time on my jogs, it's about time I begin.

Put down my first long run today. Went 13.15 miles, don't ask for times because it was sad. But I'm happy that I could actually go that far. \:D How's everyone else doing?

Gotta start somewhere! I started jogging 1 mile, then slowly upped my mileage. Then I made a big jump today, my farthest to date was 8 miles. But my roommate is training for a marathon, so I ran with him and put on a good amount of distance.

That's a pretty big jump. Well done.

I tried running as soon I got up today for the first time. It's supposed to help fat loss since you do it before you eat anything, so I figured I would give it a go for a month and see how it works. It's nice to run when it's a little cooler outside, that's for sure.

I finally started running again Jan 2nd, and have logged around 23 miles in 8 runs. Obviously not a great distance per run avg, but I've run about 17 of those miles in the last 5 runs. My average time is around 8'11'' per mile, which is up from my 7'45'' or so average from early last year.

It's encouraging, though, that I can run 3 sub-8 minute miles now fairly easily. Hopefully pretty soon I'll be banging out 5 miles minimum every run.

Question for those of you who've run half marathon's.

It's January 14th and there is a half-marathon in Knoxville on March 29th. Could I get ready for that in time? My longest run to date is 4.4 miles but I know I could knock out a 10k without much hassle. Now, a half is MUCH farther than a 10k, nearly twice the distance. Is this a feasible goal? If you guys say so Im going to dedicate myself to it but I do NOT want injuries or undo strain on my body as a result of inflated ego's and unrealistic goals. Thoughts?

Just finish one? Yes, that can be done. I don't know how well though, you realistically have 2 months to train. If you started tomorrow you could work your distance up to that range. Use the online trainer at runnersworld.com to see what kind of workout you'd need to get there.

ya its plenty of time to get ready for a half...and the distance you are at already..youll be perfectly fine.

just look online for a training schedule. itll ramp you up properly. its not like you just got off the couch so you can do this quite easily imo

Matt, you can get ready in 8 weeks. Actually, there are 8 week programs all over the internet. These will help you increase your mileage safely. I believe that you won't have a problem running it, because your objective is a realistic one and that is to finish without a worry about your time.

So, I know to get into the type of shape I want, I need to do more cardio, but it's so boring if I'm not playing basketball, football or my MMA training(which I've had to take a break from because of my hip, then my knee). What are some tips you could throw a brotha?
Thinking of doing some swimming. Maybe that elipitacl thing...

Slowly but surely getting back into running shape. I've run 17.14 miles in the last 5, and averaged a pace around 7'50". Trying to get to 80 miles this month!

Got in 2 runs today:

This morning, for some stupid reason, I didn't eat anything before going running. I had no energy whatsoever (big surprise). Only logged 2.5 miles.

This afternoon, after eating(!) I logged my furthest run yet; 7.01 miles @ 8:03/mile!! I only expected to go maybe 4 miles, but just got in a zone and kept going!

2.3 miles today on my normal hilly school loop. I only walked two times after the ENORMOUS hill which is better than normal. I was coming off being sick and this was my first big run afterward so I feel good about it. \:\) How is everyone else doing?

I'm sticking to the wakeup cardio routine even though it's been frigid the last few days. It's too early to tell if it's any better than just doing it whenever, but I'm dropping weight at a steady pace. So far so good.
