The "Great GetawayII" is an excellent fishing party boat. It is a 100' fishing boat which is docked at 18400 San Carlos Boulevard, in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida.
This boat can probably hold about 75 fishermen, although on my recent trip there were probably only about forty fishermen aboard. It sails every day, weather permitting, from 9a.m.-3p.m. The cost is $30 per person. All tackle, bait, rods and supplies are included, although you are welcome to bring your own equipment if you prefer.
The sailing time is a bit long - 1 and 1/2 hours each way. What makes up for this, is the fact that the fishing spots are excellent, providing practically non-stop action. There was a large variety of fish caught during my trip, including grouper, snapper, amberjack, cobia, and others. A pool was available for the longest fish, at a price of $2.
Even though the boat was not at full capacity, conditions were still somewhat crowded, with fishermen shoulder to shoulder. There were a fair number of tangled lines, but the mates were very helpful at quickly untangling lines, replacing hooks, and storing fish, so this saved time.
There is a surprisingly good snack bar on board which offers freshly prepared breakfast foods and lunch foods, as well as snacks and drinks. The water was very choppy on the day that I went, and some passengers remained bellow decks, sprawled on the cushioned benches. If you are prone to sea sickness, it might be wise to take precautions.
Although reservations are not required, it would probably be a good idea go phone ahead to see whether or not the boat is sailing. The telephone number is 239-466-3600.
If you are in the Ft.Myers area and enjoy fishing, this is a fun trip, aboard a 100' boat. It would definitely be appropriate to bring children along. The almost constant pace virtually assures a good time for all.
