My fathers 02 monte carlo has some flaws on the hood and other random places on the body.It kinda looks like particles of fiberglass.Or like the clear coat is chipping away.Any thoughts on what this could be and any way to fix it or at least cover it up?

I clay barred it and waxed yesterday but there still there. Any help is appreciated

Pics would be helpful, but it may be clearcoat damage. What does it feel like? Scratches, pits, bumps, or smooth?

I adjustred the settings so that you could see the specs better. They dont stand out as much normally. They feel like little hairs in the paint.I just dont understand why its all over the entire car \:\(

Those actually look like specs that are all over the front of my hood. If they are in fact the same things, they look like small chips in the paint, but there are so many that touch-up paint won't really fix it. Unfortunately, I think the only fix is to get it repainted.

Thanks. i kinda of figured that was the only option now.I found it odd that its on the side of the car though too.

I guess living 2 miles away from the nations 2nd highest polluting power plant might have something to do with it \:\(

Exactly where does the glaze go? In between the polish and wax steps?

Yes. After you use an abrasive like a heavy cut cleaner or swirl remover but before you seal it with a wax.

Remember that the general rule is to go from most abrasive to least abrasive. If you're using a claybar, start with that. Then machine-applied polishes, hand-applied paint cleaners or glazes, then wax. If you're using a synthetic sealant, apply that first and then a carnauba wax over it should you choose to. I find that to most effectively reduce/remove swirls, use microfiber towels. I have been a fan of 100% cotton for many years, but recently decided that microfiber is indeed superior (I know, old news for most people, but I'm a bit more old school). I order the "green guzzler" microfiber towels from AutoGeek.net in the largest size for paintwork, and the smaller size for interior and glass. I find that even perfectly clean cotton tends to leave at least minute swirls that are visible in direct sunlight, and microfiber reduces that effect.

Ok, so I recently bought an 07 Tahoe. The exact vehicle can be found here

Southern Comfort Tahoe

Since it's not too old then I don't need to do much restoration (swirl marks, etc) but I would like to get a good wax in place (purchasing a PC). I would like to know what waxes you guys recommend. Also, what should I do about any spots that are the result of chips? As in, a rock or two chipped some paint away on the front while driving down to South FL recently.

thanks

For a new car, Id claybar first. Some say not to, some say thats the best time to do it; I believe in the latter. After that, I would use your Porter Cable, use Meguiars Pro Series Show Car Glaze, and then Mother's Carnauba. The Mother's is a "cleaner wax" by trade, but it has a silky smooth finish and Ive been using it for YEARS with tons of compliments, and it always looks good. If your tahoe is black, I might use a fine swirl remover (Poorboys SSR1.0), after the clay bar, just to make sure there are no swirls, (which there are bound to be). If you do that, and wipe off with a quality MF towel, youll have good results.

arg... I hate clay baring. I did it a time or two with my Si. So will that combo be fine for a white vehicle? (same color as the one in the picture)

Clay baring is nothing bad at all. Just take your time and youll be fine, it makes a huge difference.

what do you think of using steam in detailing? Just thinking if it will not cause any damage to the paint? Thanks!

All my products were left in the garage and I just noticed that my poorboy's EX-P sealant chunked up It looks like it separated. I tried to shake it up, but it just ended up looking like cottage cheese. Can I still use it? It happened to the poorboy's ssr 1 also, but not the ssr2.5. Also, my PC has a 4in backing plate, but the pads that I'm using are 5.5 inch. Will that be okay, or am I fucking something up? Thanks in advance for any help!
