Does anyone have any personal experience with it? I'd like the A7R but I can't afford that right now.
I'm leaning towards the A7 and was just curious if anyone had some first hand experience with it.
Thanks

I have the A7R. I love the EVF, I love that you can use almost any lens ever on it. I will be getting the R2 for the AF performance. I don't think I have any use for the extra pickles, but I suppose that could be handy.
What's your price range? Do you need full frame? You might also consider micro four-thirds, the lens system is pretty fleshed out.

I use all my old Canon lenses, and I'm thinking about culling my bag quite a bit and just traveling with the Canon 16-35 (everything I've read puts it a bit ahead of the Zeiss), the 55 1.8, and the Batis 25 and 85. If they came out with a 1.4 TC and some extension tubes I think that's all I'd need.

I'd love to get the A7R but it's about $1,300 more and I just can't justify that right now for a hobby.
When's the R2 coming out? Maybe I'm confused!
I'm looking at around $1,500 price range with a lens. I will upgrade later. The one thing I didn't like about the A7 is the use of an adapter with other common lenses which I've heard is ok with some and not the best with others. I could be wrong about that as well.
I don't need a full frame, I just figured it would be better for lens options. I want to shoot a lot of wide angle photos.
Learn me on the micro four-thirds....I'm unfamiliar.
I have the Sony NEX-6 and my understand is FE lenses will work on that too so if I get the A7 that would be handy but it's not crucial.

The RX1 is pretty nice as well.
The A7R is better than the A7ii right?

Common complaint I've read is that they overheat with long exposures and video recording, which shuts them down and bricks the file it was in the process of making. Any first hand experience with those issues?

The R2 is out now, but it's *way* over your budget, so who cares. $1,500 for body and a wide angle is really not going to get you anything good in full frame territory. Most of the good 16-35's are almost that much by themselves. I think you might want to really consider why you're looking at FF and see if you really *need* it. You have an APS-C body already. How do you feel you are limited by it? These days there are a ton of crop lenses, more than FF really since FF stuff is bigger, heavier, and more expensive so they're going to sell less of them.
M4/3 is a good system if you're looking to shed weight. I don't really like them just because the sensor is even smaller than your current Sony and it seems as though corner performance is dodgy on even the high quality lenses due to the sensor design. I hate soft corners.
Maybe take a look at Fuji, the XE-2 and their 10-24 would be a great combo, pretty light, and not too much over your budget. Fuji's lens line is really awesome, I'm jealous. I bought an XT-1 and a few lenses and rented the A7R (rented the Sony because I was convinced I'd like the Fuji more, based on a short time with both at my local camera shop), but to my surprise I loved the files coming out of the Sony and I thought the EVF and especially the focus aids were a lot more confidence inspiring on the Sony. Sometimes I'd be in magnified focus on the Fuji and still not be sure I'd nailed focus. That doesn't happen on the Sony.
So I'd really recommend spending a few hours in your LCS, or maybe even renting some shit and hitting the streets to see what you like best.
The RX1 is pretty nice as well.
The A7R is better than the A7ii right?
The R is better for pixel peepers like me due to the lack of an AA filter. Seriously, looking at files from this camera at 100% on a retina display makes me want to lick the screen. The 72 is better for . . . pretty much all else. Better AF, IBIS, better grip and ergonomics.
The RX1 is more of a moderate wide angle. It's a great camera and a great lens, but it's a niche product. Maybe look at the RX10?
Buyer beware man. I buy from B&H or my LCS basically exclusively. Really good deals are usually really not. There are tons of shady shops hawking gray market shit with no warranty and horrible return policies. This gear is hard to make, and if you get a dud you need to be able to get a new one with minimal fuss.
Common complaint I've read is that they overheat with long exposures and video recording, which shuts them down and bricks the file it was in the process of making. Any first hand experience with those issues?
I have had the camera shut off once or maybe twice while doing 240 exposure time lapses when it was nearing exposure 200. Pretty frustrating, but it's definitely not something that happens every time. Never had it happen with video, but I don't shoot much video and if I do it's short clips. Never done a super long exposure either, I think two minutes is probably the longest I've done, no issues. YMMV.

I'm worried about my NEX quitting because, well long story short my dog threw up on it while I was driving him to the hospital and it's been a bit temperamental ever since. The LCD is flickering but I know I can change that.
I think it's only a matter of time before it dies and the cost to repair it, I don't know if it will be worth it.
I just take pictures as a hobby now, when I get better it would be nice to sell some locally or something but who knows. That's farther down the road and depends on whether or not I actually get better!
I love taking landscapes and wide angle shots. What would you recommend for the widest angle lens for the NEX?
Thanks again, this is all great information. I may just wait until it does completely.

I'm not stuck on song brand but I've heard mixed reviews with other brands and the e mount adapter.
How's the fisheye? I'm worried about distortion.

Here is one with the 16mm and the fisheye adapter taken with my NEX-5R. I don't have a wide angle adapter.
There is a lot of distortion. lol

You're in a tough situation. The Sony 10-18 is supposed to be decent, but if you're worrying about your body being shot, maybe you do want to start over. A Nikon D7200 and Tokina 11-16 would be a sweet combo IMO, it has a fantastic sensor. It's really about state of the art in APS-C, though the EVF on the Fuji XE-2 and the Sony A77II are pretty great. The main reason I love an EVF is being able to do critical focus confirmation in any light, the D7200 would be harder to do in bright light since it's limited to Live View on the rear LCD.
Seriously, go to your LCS and spend a few hours putting different stuff through its paces.

Thanks! I'm leaning more towards that.
Any recommendations on a good flash and wireless transmitter for my NEX?

I've had good luck with my Yongnuos so far. And at $30-40 each there's not a lot of risk.

Excuse my ignorance but any winning combo you might suggest for the NEX 6?
Should I get manual to start or spend the extra?

I ordered this lens and it will be here Saturday. I haven't ordered a flash yet because I haven't found a well reviewed flash AND transmitter for the Sony. I'll keep digging.

I won't use it for the hot shoe but does the transmitter mount up properly onto my hot shoe or is that connected via cable? The 560tx

I think that's what he's using here and according to him the Canon version of the transmitter should work on my hot shoe but not the actual flash.
