haha mk7 GTD jussst got unveiled in Europe, so nah this isn't one of those :P
This one just came in last week (yes it's a euro-spec test car) and it is a TDI, 150hp and 236lb-ft (new EA288 engine), and DSG.
The color is Oryx White, basically a pearl white but a cooler tone and not as creamy as some other pearls.
It literally just got unloaded on Wednesday. My team is all off on a trip this coming week, so I was lucky enough to be the first to take it for the weekend.
It's the first Volkswagen product on MQB (Audi A3 is also on it), which is a modular car-building tool kit that will eventually be the basis for all fwd-based VWs.
This car is a bit longer and wider, longer wheelbase, and a little shorter in height than the mk6 Golf.
MQB also uses a lot of high strength and ultra high strength steel, so together with some other changes the mk7 weighs about 200 pounds less than the mk6!
This particular test car is loaded to the teet.
It has...
Adaptive cruise control (ACC)
Lane Assist, which can actively steer you back into your lane
Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC), which gives driver adjustable damping (comfort, normal, sport) and like 8 other driving parameters, all individually customizable
Engine Stop/Start
Bi-Xenons with Dynamic Light Assist (to me this is the coolest one: you can basically keep your high beams on at all times, and the lights will dim only the portion of the beam that is hitting approaching traffic. the area around is still lit up by the highs)
Park Assist, which is nothing new but usually not found on this class of car (parks itself, parallel or backing into a spot)
Rearview camera
Park Pilot, which basically puts sensors all over and displays on the dash how close things are, 360 degrees around the car
Direct Steering, which is a variable ratio steering setup, = more direction change with less steering input
Navigation
Panoramic sunroof
And a new infotainment setup, which is FAST AND RESPONSIVE AS HELL. Does all the usual stuff... but it just does it extremely cleanly and super smooth.
It is easily the fastest OEM in-car entertainment setup I've ever seen; uses a NVIDIA Tegra 2 or 3 processor with like 3x the processing power of something like MyFordTouch (1.5+ ghz vs 600 mhz).
And then it has some other additions like ambient lighting in the doors, LED interior lights, 10-way power sport seats, etc etc
Oh and this car is rated for 4.1 l/100km combined (in euroland)
So yeah... it's pretty cool

I was looking at the MKV Jetta TDI, all the 2006 has 300,000+ KM and all asking $9000-10000
If I were to buy used, I want a 2-3 years model with reasonable mileage. Otherwise I might suck it up and buy a new one.
The MK7 wagon looks good, I will wait for the GTD official announcement then I will decide what I would do.
