So my boys aged 8 and 10 have been saving their money as they want to buy a Switch. The console and one game after tax is $545, not chump change.
There are a lot of schmucks out there thinking its still impossible to buy one retail and are selling them at stupid prices. Yes they are available at retail.
I found a used one from a lady (who is selling it for her daughter as she apparently is not into it) for $400 with 3 games. She has been honest saying that it is used (bought last year) with some minor scratches on the back. She offered to come to her house and try it out for as long as we want to ensure everything is ok.
My concerns:
- Its used and wont have any warranty - Its version 1 (version 2 has longer batter life but not sure how much mobile game my kids will do) - I know you can customize the controllers but I thought the standard options were blue/red or grey. Hers are grey/blue
Can I buy them a retail unit? Yes. Do I want to? No. I'm just trying to see if I can stretch their dollar a little further.

I'd buy the used one regardless if I can afford new. Also a great teaching moment for the kids on money, stretching a dollar, value of money (first world problem lol).

Not sure to be honest.
She's letting it go for $350. Not too shabby for the unit and 3 games (games are $80+tax each ). The main reason I'm considering it (apart from the savings) is she's letting me test it.

It'll get better in time, just don't be surprised if your kids start kicking your ass in SF2. I was surprised when my eldest son started to kick my ass in all SF games and MK games, but nonetheless Im proud of him to do better than me.

Buy the used one for them. If it ends up not working out they can use their money and buy one at retail

If you can find one, the best place to buy Switch stuff is from Shoppers Drug Mart on the 20x points days. It’s equivalent to getting 30% back.

It will be a bit of a change for them going from on-demand PS3 games to only one Switch game. We let them know that although they bought it with their money, mom and dad still make the rules of when it can be played.
yep, i have the snes roms loaded on a snes mini classic (hakchi loaded (?) - drag and drop) and he had 1000+ games at the ready. i may put mame on this for arcade games if i have time; but i'd rather drive the s2000)
when i was a kid i played a few games and was good at them.. he just goes on the next game when he gets bored or loses
i bought a mayflash so you can use other controllers - i use wii with snes classic controller - not good for sf. there is lag or maybe i suck at sf now

Switch has amazing parental controls.
DL the phone app & you can be alerted & set restrictions etc all from your phone.
Plus the majority of games are age appropriate.
xbox one x as well, on console but some options thru their (shitty) app as well lol.
