Never entered this thread, but figureed why not. I stopped working out due to working 80hrs a wk, then also having a herina surgery. Well got back to the gym 2 weeks ago. I am 6' 1" and weight about 180. All that time now working out I gained love handles and gut.... My goal is get back to where I was Aug 05, 200lbs solid with about 10% bf.... Sorry, I haven't read a post here in a long time, I was around when it began but now it seems I'm here at the end.
I was trying to push myself at home for a long time with free weights with a bench that had 'spotter bars'- the thing that would take me to the next level, thats all you need right? It never really turned into anything over a 180lb plateau. I could bench '1 ' 210lb and then I would loose it, same thing over and over.
Recently I sold my olympic bench on ebay and bought a powertec leverage bench. Started out with the same max of 180lbs, but pushed up to 230lbs within 2 1/2 weeks, I really have nothing to advertise other than what has worked for me. I always had a goal of benching my own weight but didn't think I would ever really achieve it. The leverage system made it happen. Its gym quality movement with plates you can buy at Dicks.
I'm pretty sure I'm buying a powertec squat leverage off ebay or retail to achieve the same things with my lower body. I've had a hard time with squats from day one, been trying to lift 90lbs week after week while my bench press is going up(legs are stronger than arms) even though that 90lb have created some firm legs.

Well, those machines are not really comparable to free weights, but you can get great gains with them. I have never used that brand, but they look like decent quality for home use. Keep it up.
Ok, so here is a pic of me as I start my bulk. Sorry I look so groggy, I just woke up in the pic lol. At 6ft 225lb. I really want to add 10-15 lbs of muscle by summer, mostly in the legs.

That's where I put it. My player just has a really short strap. My old one fit well before it got broken. I guess I'll have to try to find a different strap.

Someone at the gym I go to (who looks a lot like you btw, Bruce), wears a hat, and puts his ipod on the back clip of the hat. Very innovative!
Hmmm, sound like a pretty good idea. Then my headphones won't get ripped out of my ears when they get caught on weights. I can tuck the cord into the hat. Thanks, Steve!!

Why aren't they? You are clearly bigger than me but I'm no fool to the weight room at school or at the gym. The leverage system from powertec is quite comparable to free weights and to weight plate systems such as the Cybex I've used at the typical gym.
Sure, there are extra isolater muscles in a free weight action or even with bowflex, but when it comes to just shaping up, it really doesn't matter in the end when its just about how your body looks, not the method that made it happen.
We are all looking for different appearances. At your size imo I would be looking to be more cut, to have some definition, etc. For you its probably to lift heavier wieghts, get more mass etc. We are all different.

No. Free weights > machines. Thanks.

i'm gonna quote this picture again. ahahah fireinthehole huge dude nice work
and those machines really have no simlarities to free weights other than the actual movement. i can do so much more weight on a fucking machine, that is saying something. stabilizer muscles/core work = huge with free weights.

I just read the post someone made with this:
http://www.t-nation.com/readTopic.do?id=1268956
I guess there is no way I am gaining all that muscle by summer. LAWL. This link really opened my eyes and there were a lot of great points. I guess I have to rethink my strategy a little. A lot of the things he talks about hit a little too close to home as far as my bulking ideas. At least I didn't get too far into it and gain a lot of fat.
